General
A place for real people who are experts (and/or have expert-level knowledge) to share honest reviews about products and experiences. A place where contributors share in the success.
- Volume of reviews – Working as a community allows for a significantly higher volume of reviews than traditional publisher-based sites.
- Profit sharing for contributors.
- Transparency – The platform will be fully transparent, sharing all data with contributors and providing readers with honest product assessments, including acquisition details.
The long-term plan for the platform’s growth and sustainability centers on building a loyal, engaged community that makes the platform their primary destination for product information.
Compensation & Business Model
We offer a 50% revenue share on all content created by the contributor.
Think of your initial contributions as an investment in future recurring revenue. Early contributors will be the first to benefit from our 50/50 revenue-sharing model and will have a direct influence on the platform’s development. Just like any investment, it takes time to see returns. We anticipate substantial traffic and revenue within 6-12 months, at which point significant payouts will begin.
Payments are issued approximately 60 days following the end of each month. A minimum earnings threshold of $200 must be met to be eligible for payment.
We offer a 50% revenue share on all articles. The goal is to have contributors earning for each article they write on a recurring monthly basis – it’s important to understand that this is a target, and actual frequency of earnings will depend on many factors. We are committed to maximizing revenue potential for our contributors and believe that with high-quality, engaging content, this target is achievable. We also plan to leverage collective bargaining to secure better ad deals, further increasing revenue for our contributors.
The platform will primarily use affiliate deals to generate revenue. Contributors will have a 50% revenue share on all content created by the contributor.
Payments are issued approximately 60 days following the end of each month. A minimum earnings threshold of $200 must be met to be eligible for payment.
Contributors will be classified as independent contractors.
Any revenue generated from the review will be shared, with no end date.
Earnings will be paid through PayPal. We intend to add ACH transfers as a payment method at a later date.
We’ll begin hiring editors as paid contributors as soon as we’re able and have the need.
Content & Editorial Policies
We will start with single-item reviews and move to roundups, timely and informational pieces later. The reviews should be engaging and comprehensive. Thin reviews that only cover the basics will be rejected. Every review should have original art (pictures and video) taken by the reviewer. We will create a template and a writer’s style guide to make sure every review meets minimum standards for publication through various channels (SEO, social media, email, etc.).
Enthusiasm for brands (or the opposite) is definitely OK. Shilling for a product is not. The editorial team has two ways to ensure quality: 1) We will review every piece for quality control. If a piece does not seem objective or sufficiently engaged with the product, it will be sent back to the writer for a re-do. 2) The editorial team will never ask writers to make their reviews more favorable to a product before publication.
We will publish our guidelines, expectations and the writer’s style guide, so everyone is on the same page when it comes to expectations for quality, independent content. The editorial team will also give ample feedback for pitches and drafts that don’t rise to the standard for publication.
The most engaging reviews are ones that are realistic and represent the actual experience someone will have with the product. From our end, our editorial standards will make it clear that writers/reviewers are expected to cover the real-world experience of the product, including downsides/cons of the product. The pressure will also never be from us to cover a product in a particular way. We will have public-facing statements about how writers test in accordance with real-world usage to provide readers with an authentic assessment of the product in question, which is also useful if PR people contact us or the writers.
For business and operational reasons, including content management and legal protection, the platform will own the content, while revenue derived from it will be split 50/50 with the contributor.
To ensure reviews are based on firsthand experience and not AI-generated, all reviews will require accompanying photos and a short walkthrough video. We also thoroughly vet every contributor to maintain our high standards.
All individual product reviews must be based on hands-on testing. While related products may be mentioned based on prior experience or knowledge, it must be explicitly stated if they have not been personally tested.
Gambling, alcohol, marijuana/THC/CBD, sex toys, health/pharmaceutical, supplements, culture related products ( Books, Movies, Music, etc.), multi-level marketing (MLM) products and personal finance.
Every review should have a minimum of text and photos taken by the writer. (There is no strict word count, but there will be a template that covers the minimum points of what a review will need to cover.) We also want at least a few seconds of video, whether that’s an unboxing video without voiceover, product walkthrough or a full video review.
Initially, contributors will need to provide their own products for review. (This also means that contributors can cover products they have owned for some time, as long as they are still available to purchase new.) In the future, a dedicated logistics department will be established to facilitate obtaining product samples and purchasing items for review.
Reviews of all products, from established brands to lesser-known or emerging businesses, are welcome, regardless of whether they are positive or negative, provided they do not fall within the prohibited categories.
Initially, we ask the writers to pitch reviews to ensure that there isn’t duplicative content created. After the review has been approved, the writer will submit the review which will either be published or sent back for rewrites.
We understand the importance of thorough product testing. While we don’t have rigid deadlines, we will work with you to establish a realistic due date for each product before it’s provided, ensuring sufficient time for testing.
We don’t impose strict word limits on reviews. Our priority is quality, not length. Focus on providing comprehensive, insightful reviews that thoroughly cover key features, performance, and user experience. The ideal length will naturally vary depending on the product, but prioritize providing valuable information without being unnecessarily wordy. We’ll offer guidelines on length and format to help you.
You have the freedom to choose almost any product you’d like to review! The key is that the product shouldn’t be in our prohibited categories (gambling, adult, pharmaceutical products, supplements, MLM, personal finance and culture related products ( Books, Movies, Music, etc.) ) and that a review hasn’t already been published or is in the pipeline. Pitching your ideas is a great way to collaborate with us as we build the platform and ensures we have a good mix of reviews. We’ll also offer some suggestions to get you started.
Writer pitches will be reviewed by the editors and if approved, writers will have a deadline to submit a draft of the review. If the draft is approved, the review will be published as soon as the editor has added it to the CMS.
Writers will be asked to keep their own pieces updated. The idea is to “curate” your pieces so they remain fresh.
We will not willingly provide your content to AI, and we will endeavor to block their access to it whenever and wherever possible.
Pen names go contrary to the general idea behind the platform (real people, real reviews), and as such, we won’t allow them.
You absolutely don’t need to stick to one niche. You can write about any product you have personal experience with.
We encourage growth! So, yes, you can review products in categories you’re not an expert in, with a caveat: If you can’t demonstrate experience of the product category, you should at least be able to show solid knowledge of it (e.g., be aware of the competition, general public sentiment towards the product, perhaps how a product like this is normally made). Basically, everything necessary to make it clear that you’re basing your review on more than just whether or not you like it. Your editors can also help you to shape the review if required.
Contributor Requirements & Logistics
Previous experience in writing product reviews is preferred, but any interested enthusiast with deep knowledge about a specific product category (and a good BS detector) is also welcome to apply to contribute.
There’s no required time commitment. You can contribute as much or as little as you like. However, as a revenue-sharing platform, your earnings will be directly related to your contributions.
Yes, as long as they review products that can be found and sold in the U.S.
Most communication will happen over email. We are also going to set up a Slack channel for writers to communicate with the editors and with each other.
The editorial team will provide feedback on writer pitches and data on content performance. The business team will focus on bargaining for greater affiliate payouts and marketing contributors across platforms, including email, video and social media. We will assist with PR relationships where appropriate. However, due to time constraints, we may not personally be able to assist with PR contacts for sample products; in the future, a dedicated logistics department may be established to facilitate such requests.
We’re committed to transparency regarding revenue sharing. Our long-term goal is to provide each contributor with a personalized dashboard showing real-time statistics on their contributions. In the interim, you’ll have access to overall platform traffic data, and we’ll distribute detailed revenue reports on a monthly basis.
Contributors are not required to publish exclusively on the platform, but content created for the platform cannot be republished elsewhere, and previously published content will not be accepted.
In the early stages, yes (it’s not ideal for SEO, so this will likely change long term). If you do cover a product you’ve written about elsewhere, make sure to offer new insight, e.g., how you feel about the product after six months of use. Consider this: If you did a product roundup elsewhere, you can now provide individual reviews of those same products on this platform, offering a deeper dive.
Yes, if they can demonstrate expertise in a specific product category and/or have specific qualifications, certifications, or licenses (examples: personal trainers, veterinarians, hair stylists, etc.).
Initially, we won’t have a budget for product testing. We plan to add one in the future, along with a logistics team to handle product acquisition (purchasing or brand samples).
Traffic & Marketing
We’re combining our marketing expertise along with the reach of our contributors to build a strong audience. Our strategy includes active social media engagement, creating engaging video content for platforms like YouTube and TikTok, optimizing our website for SEO to attract organic traffic, and fostering community interaction through a dedicated forum.
Recent Google updates target brands that try to use their existing authority to rank for topics outside their main area of expertise. Because our platform is exclusively focused on product reviews from the start, we’re at no risk of these penalties. We’re building our authority within this specific niche, which aligns with Google’s guidelines.
By diversifying our traffic sources. We won’t rely solely on search engines but will also focus on social media, video content and direct outreach, with the end goal of building a loyal community who come directly to our platform.
