The Acer Swift 14 AI Windows Laptop with Copilot+ PC Costs Less Than $1,000, Yet Can Meet the Needs of Typical Laptop Users

The Acer Swift 14 laptops is that it comes in many different configurations, with the main differentiators being the processor, RAM, and capacity of the internal SSD for storage.

When shopping for this laptop, you need to choose which option best meets your needs and which processor brand you’re most loyal to. For the typical user, any of the options versions — the Intel i3-1315U, Snapdragon X Elite, or AMD Ryzen Ai 9 354 processors — are suitable, as long as the laptop contains enough RAM and internal storage to handle the intended tasks for the computer.

The form factor adopted by all versions of the Acer Swift 14 are very similar. All are relatively thin, lightweight, and include a decent collection of ports. Most are priced less than $1,000, which makes the laptop a good value.

To test and review this laptop, the folks at Acer sent me a model configured with Windows 11 Home, an AMD Ryzen AI 9 365 processor, 14-inch WUXGA IPS (1,920 x 1,200 pixel resolution) touchscreen display (with a 60Hz refresh rate), 16GB of RAM, and a 1TB SSD for storage. This configuration has a list price of $1,200, but it’s consistently on sale on Amazon and Acer’s own website for around $970.

I’ve enjoyed my time working with this laptop, so keep reading if you want to learn more about it, and determine if it’s a good fit for you based on how you plan to use it.

Who Will the Acer Swift 14 AI Laptop Appeal To?

If you’re looking for a decently equipped Windows laptop that’s suitable for a student or an adult handling everyday computing tasks, the Acer Swift 14 AI is a good option. You get all of the latest AI tools and integrations offered by Microsoft Copilot+ PC, including a dedicated Copilot key on the backlit keyboard.

This laptop has no problem handling everyday tasks, like web surfing, word processing, video streaming, music streaming, crunching numbers with a spreadsheet, basic photo editing, casual online gaming, running cloud-based applications, email account management, scheduling, creating digital slide presentations, and more. 

In fact, you’ll find that the Ryzen AI 9 365 provides enough processing power to multitask when using your favorite applications. This particular processor can handle up to 73 trillion operations per second, which is more than enough to fully utilize Copilot+ PC AI tools and features, plus run apps and handle your everyday computing needs. While it’s not the most durable or powerful laptop option out there, it’s nicely equipped to provide reliable performance and a long battery life at an affordable price.

Best Features Offered By the Acer Swift 14 AI Laptop

When shopping for a laptop, you’ll quickly discover virtually all of them regardless of the brand can handle everyday computing tasks right out of the box. Before making a purchase or even exploring what’s out there, carefully define your needs as the laptop user. Consider how and where you plan to use the device. Choose the key features you really want access to, and then calculate your budget so you don’t overspend for a laptop that does way more than you need it to. 

The Acer Swift 14 AI falls into the mid-price range. It’s not a super-cheap, low-end device with limited processing power and low performance capabilities. However, it’s not a high-end model either. What you get is a laptop that offers a surprising number of features, combined with good performance, and a long battery life.

On the surface, the Acer Swift 14 AI checks all of the boxes in terms of its processor, RAM, internal storage, and overall design. The built-in speakers are adequate at best, but users can rely on either wired or wireless earbuds or headphones to enjoy whatever audio accompanies the applications being used.

Using earbuds or headphones is particularly important to have the best viewing experience streaming TV shows, movies, other video content, music, audiobooks, or podcasts from your favorite services.

The webcam and internal microphones work fine for video calling and participating in virtual meetings, but again, if you will be using a decent quality pair of headphones or earbuds (from a brand like Bose or Bowers & Wilkins), those have high-end, noise cancelling microphones, too. You can use the mics in the headphones or earbuds for clearer audio when engaging in video calls, Internet-based voice calls (VoIP), or virtual meetings.

One thing I like about this laptop is its selection of ports. On the left side, there’s an HDMI port, one USB Type-A port, and two USB Type-C ports. On the right side, there’s a single USB Type-A port, and a 3.5mm headphone/audio jack. Not all laptops at the sub-$1,000 price point offer so many ports, and even fewer have a built-in HDMI port that allows the laptop to connect directly to a TV or external monitor using an off-the-shelf HDMI cable.

When it comes to wireless connectivity, with the Acer Swift 14 AI you get support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, so you can expect fast and reliable (wireless) connectivity with the internet and whatever Bluetooth devices you pair with the laptop.

I also found that the laptop’s keyboard is nicely designed and comfortable to type on. And since it’s backlit, you can use the laptop in a darker room and still see the keys. You get a standard keyboard layout, with four dedicated directional arrow keys, plus a Copilot key, and Windows key. There’s also a separate power button, “A” (Acer) key, and 12 Function keys. The 5-inch by 3.25-inch touchpad below the keyboard is a good size and very responsive. 

As for the Acer Swift 14 AI’s display, it’s maximum brightness is just 500 nits, which isn’t great, but it’s more than adequate for seeing what’s on the display in a normally lit or dimly lit room. The 65Hz refresh rate is also rather average, but it’s fine for streaming video or casual gaming.

On the plus side, you get a touchscreen that offers a 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, Thus, whatever colors are being displayed will be accurately depicted and appear rather vibrant. The 1,920 x 1,200 pixel resolution is also rather good for a WUXGA IPS LCD display. This translates to video, photos, text, and graphics appearing very sharp, with plenty of detail.

One standout feature is the display’s adjustability. It can move up to 180-degress, so it can be placed at a comfortable viewing angle, or even laid flat. This extra level of adjustability can help with perfectly positioning the display’s viewing angle for comfort, and to avoid glare from ambient lighting.

Take Full Advantage of Copilot+ PC AI

These days, if you’re planning to purchase a Windows laptop, I highly recommend choosing one that fully supports Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC integrated AI tools and functionality. Even if you don’t plan to rely on AI to help with your everyday computing tasks right now, this technology is evolving quickly, so you should have it at your disposal if you opt to use it in the future. This functionality is baked into the Acer Swift 14 AI laptop.

Since the Acer Swift 14 AI is a Windows laptop, it comes with the latest Microsoft Copilot+ PC AI functionality integrated into the device. There are many ways you can take advantage of these AI tools to streamline everyday tasks, plus take advantage of the versatile digital assistant that’s literally just one keypress away, regardless of which you’reusing the computer for. There are also several ways to interact with the AI tools, using the keyboard or your voice.

I’ve discovered that just about anyone can benefit from using at least some of the AI tools and features currently offered. In addition to now being fully integrated into the Windows operating system, the same AI is utilized with virtually all Microsoft apps and services, including Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).

As a result, the laptop can work behind-the-scenes to automatically share data between apps, anticipate some of a user’s needs, summarize and organize a user’s email inbox, make certain decisions on the user’s behalf, and help just about anyone become a better communicator.

My six favorite Copilot+ PC AI-driven features currently include:

1. The ability to quickly and dramatically edit a digital photo.
2. Getting help writing text-based content from scratch using one or more simple prompts. This works with documents, emails, text messages, and more. And the AI can correct your spelling and grammar, plus make suggestions on how to improve text to make it easier to understand by the reader. 
3. Select one or more documents and obtain a summary of the content in seconds. (This works with web pages, recordings, PFD files, and incoming emails, too.) 
4. Using Recall, it’s simple to find any content you’ve previously viewed on your laptop. This includes text-based content or photos.
5. Create live, text-based captions for audio or video content, including video calls. This includes being able to translate content into English from more than 40 other languages.
6. Get answers to questions and seek help anytime from an advanced digital assistant that can be accessed by pressing the Copilot key on the laptop’s keyboard. You can then communicate with the assistant in a conversational way by typing or speaking to it.

Biometric Security Options Include a Fingerprint Sensor and Windows Hello Facial Recognition

There are a wide range of optional security tools (including some that are built into Windows and popular applications, including all web browsers) you can use to help protect your security and privacy, find and remove viruses and malware, and to help you avoid becoming a victim of online scams or identity theft.

When you first set up the laptop, I suggest going through all of these features and activating the ones you deem necessary. Next, spend a few minutes customizing the various security and privacy options offered by the operating system, the web browser you choose, and the other applications you plan to use.

The Acer Swift 14 AI laptop offers a few additional security features, too. To begin, each time you turn on the laptop, you can unlock the device using a passcode, pin, a fingerprint scan, or facial recognition. So if your physical laptop falls into the wrong hands, a stranger won’t easily be able to unlock it and access your private information. 

Also, to prevent hackers from remotely activating the laptop’s webcam and literally spying on you, when the 1440p resolution webcam is not in use, there’s a physical shutter door that blocks the camera lens. This is done by sliding a small switch located to the left of the webcam’s camera.

My Final Thoughts: Is the Acer Swift 14 AI Copilot+ PC Worth It?

Considering what you get for the sub-$1,000 price (when it’s on sale), the Acer Swift 14 AI is definitely worth the price, as long as you keep your expectations in check. Again, this is a laptop that can easily handle everyday computing tasks, multitasking, and helping users get the most out of the latest Copilot+ PC AI tools. If this is what you’re seeking, I’d seriously consider investing in this laptop. I recommend the laptop to casual users and to middle school or high school age students. 

However, if you’re shopping for a laptop that can be used for high-resolution video editing, advanced gaming, 3D modeling, running applications that perform extremely complex scientific or engineering calculations, or plan to be performing large-scale data analysis, this is not the laptop for you. To handle these advanced tasks, plan on spending at least two to four times more money.
