The Baby Brezza Formula Pro Helped Me Enjoy My Breastfeeding Journey

Welcoming a new baby has come with lots of challenges. Learning how to take care of a newborn, sleepless nights, constantly checking if she’s breathing — it’s a lot. However, there is one thing that has been extra difficult for me as a new mom: Breastfeeding. My daughter has had issues nursing, so I’ve had to pump and supplement with formula exclusively. Constantly pumping while also measuring out formula to mix with water every few hours was beginning to take a toll on me, which is when I discovered the Baby Brezza Formula Pro. A machine that will dispense formula, mix it with water, and heat it up in a matter of literal seconds? I had to see if it not only worked, but was worth the money.

Unboxing & First Impressions

Ordering the Baby Brezza was quite simple, really. It’s available on Amazon, but I ordered directly from the brand’s website as I find it easier to contact the brand regarding warranties or tech issues when they can find the original order. Plus, they do free shipping. I ordered the product on a Friday, and Baby Brezza makes it clear on the website that they will not process any orders on the weekend until the next business day. I assumed they would process the order by Monday and I would receive the package closer to the end of the week, so imagine my surprise when I received it on Tuesday.

Removing the appliance from the box was easy, as it was completely assembled. My first impression of the Baby Brezza was how stylish it looked. I loved the sleek design and how it didn’t seem too clunky on my kitchen counter. It kind of resembled a fancy Keurig machine, which I appreciated. It also didn’t weigh too much—around nine pounds—so it was easy to move around.

Setting Up

Setting the Baby Brezza up has very specific instructions, which I immediately failed upon reading the manual. When you open the manual, you’re greeted with the word “Attention” in bold red font that prompts you not to take anything apart yet. I had already taken apart several pieces, assuming the first step was to wash everything. However, I could put everything back and continue with the initial steps, and taking it apart first did not affect the initial setup.

Essentially, the first step is to fill the water tank and run it through the machine. The machine specifies running 10 ounces of water, the largest setting you can choose under “ounce” on the LED screen. This process took no longer than five minutes to complete.

After that, you can remove the parts and wash everything. The manual also shows you how to put everything back together, which is helpful as the dispenser has many moving parts that confused me, like the order of the plastic blades. 

Once everything is all set up, it’s time to prepare your first bottle. I moved slowly to ensure I did it right, but I couldn’t believe how easy it was. One thing I want to note is that you have to look up the setting number of the formula brand you use. They include a QR code that takes you to a page to look up the brand and find the number. So many brands are listed, but I can’t imagine how inconvenient it would be if the one you use weren’t listed. I found my setting number, set up the ounces, chose the temperature settings and pressed start.

Product Features

Before I explain how the product works, let’s discuss the neat features, specifically the LCD screen, on the Baby Brezza. When preparing a bottle, you’ll have six buttons to choose from:

Powder Setting: This is the button where you choose the specific number corresponding to the formula brand you’re using. (The QR code comes in handy here to find your number.) 

Water Only: This is pretty self-explanatory, I think: It will dispense water. This is best used when you need to run water through the machine during cleaning, and it’s the button you’ll press for the initial step of set-up. 

Temp: The Baby Brezza has three temperatures you can choose when brewing your formula mixture. You can do room temperature, body temperature, or slightly warmer than body temperature. Note: Every time you brew a bottle, the machine has to reheat itself to your desired setting. I didn’t know this, and when I poured in a bunch of new water, it had to reheat, which took a bit of time (around two minutes) when you have a screaming baby.

Ounce: The ounces are available up to 10 and start at two ounces. The best thing about these settings is that the machine will save your last setting, so you don’t have to constantly press the button to get up to 10 each time you need a bottle. 

Start: This button may surprise you, but it will start the brewing process.

Power: You can probably figure this one out on your own.

Testing 

Arguably, the most exciting part about owning the Baby Brezza is its promise to make not just a bottle of formula, but a warm bottle of formula in literal seconds. Considering it takes my bottle warmer a whopping six minutes to warm up a bottle and my newborn can’t yet fathom what it means to wait, I was incredibly excited to test this feature out. Anyone with kids knows that six minutes in parent time is an eternity. In addition to the speed, I wanted to test if the bottles really do reach the temperatures it says, how well the formula mixes into water without any additional help from me, and how easy it is to use overall.

Speed

As mentioned, the speed at which you can make a bottle of formula for your baby directly coincides with how much your child loves you, probably. The longer you take, the angrier they are. As someone with a newborn baby who wakes up wailing for food, it was important for me to find a better solution than trying to get a level scoop of formula and mixing it into water and then warming it up to her desired temperature. I need speed. I crave speed.

I wasn’t surprised the Baby Brezza lived up to its claims, but I was surprised to have made a bottle of formula so quickly. I timed how long it took to make two ounces of formula and three ounces to see if there was a difference. In an effort not to waste any more precious (and expensive) formula, I also checked how long it would take for a 10-ounce bottle, but kept it at room temperature.

The two-ounce setting took nine seconds to finish the process, the three-ounce setting took 13 seconds, and the ten-ounce setting took 41 seconds in total. The latter is the longest time, but it is still significantly less than manually mixing a bottle and then warming it. Overall, the speed was unmatched by my human hands.

Temperature Options

Sure, the Baby Brezza has three temperature options, but how accurate is it really? Parents don’t want to hurt their babies, obviously, so making sure the bottles are at the appropriate temp is crucial. If you’re using a bottle warmer, you know it takes a while to warm up, and if you’re doing the traditional stovetop method, getting a consistent temperature is a bit trickier. So, I wanted to confirm that the Baby Brezza reached the temperatures it lists and if it can consistently hit the same temperatures for each setting. 

Room Temperature: We know that room temperature technically ranges between 68 and 74 degrees Fahrenheit, and I know that my house isn’t as hot as a summer day in Florida. However, when I tested the temperature of the room temperature setting, the thermometer displayed a whopping 86.9 degrees. It’s possible that the Brezza was still warm from my original settings, even though it beeped to let me know it’s ready for the new room temperature setting.

Body Temperature: When I first tested the formula, the thermometer displayed 99.5, but within just a few seconds, it went down to an impressive 98.6 degrees. This is known to be the most ideal temperature for milk as it’s the same temperature of breastmilk straight from the source.

Slightly Warmer Than Body Temp: My daughter’s personal favorite, this setting reached a toasty 106 degrees. While she will drink milk at essentially any temperature (yes, even cold), she prefers this warm option the most.

Formula Consistency

One common complaint about the Baby Brezza is that it sometimes doesn’t do a great job mixing the formula into the water. I can see how that would be bothersome, so I wanted to test and see if it could properly mix the formula without needing any extra help from me. I do want to note that the manual mentions that occasionally there may be clumps, and you should mix it yourself just in case.

With the formula I use, which is the BJs Wholesale brand, I had absolutely no issue getting the formula to mix with the water. Each time I brewed the formula, which at this point has been at least 25 times, I haven’t seen any clumps. However, I tested the Baby Brezza with the sensitive stomach version of the formula, as many users claimed it causes the most clumping. I did notice that the dispenser would clump up significantly quicker. I also noticed that the mixed formula would occasionally clump in the bottle. The brand does note in the manual that there are some brands of formula that may experience clumping, particularly ones that are notoriously difficult to mix manually as well. I can confirm this is true.

Ease of Use

My daughter wakes up suddenly at night with an immense hunger. This means I usually wake up in a panic, rushing to the kitchen to get her next bottle ready. Sometimes I will give her breastmilk (which I have to run through the six-minute bottle warmer), but when I’m in a rush, the Baby Brezza wins. It really couldn’t be any easier to use. If you own or have used a Keurig, it’s a similar process. Once you have the settings saved, all you have to do is put the bottle under the dispenser and press start. That’s it.

Final Thoughts

I may not be a baby product expert, but I have nearly a decade of experience testing products and reviewing them. I know what to look for and now with a baby, I can confidently say that I know whether a product works or not. The Baby Brezza Formula Pro is a fantastic addition to any parent’s feeding journey with their little ones. It takes the headache away from mixing the formula yourself and cuts the time down to literal seconds.

There are some things about it I don’t like. For example, it won’t make less than two ounces. This was a headache when my daughter was younger and didn’t drink quite that much yet, as it made us waste a lot of formula and, well, that’s an expensive drawback. However, she quickly graduated to two ounces and it stopped being an issue. 

Another thing I absolutely can’t stand about the Baby Brezza is that you have to clean the dispenser every fourth bottle. This is to keep formula from clogging up the dispenser and accidentally ruining the ratio that Baby Brezza dispenses if an extra clump happens to fall in the bottle. When it’s 2AM and you just want to make a bottle, there’s nothing worse than hearing the beeps notifying you that you have to clean the dispenser. However, I have managed to find a loophole: If you remove the dispenser and pop it back in, it’ll reset the bottle countdown. Only do this if there isn’t any clogged up formula and make sure to clean it out in the morning when you’re more awake.

Overall, I would highly recommend the Baby Brezza Formula Pro to any parent who uses formula, whether exclusively or in combination with breastmilk. The Baby Brezza made my life so much easier with a newborn, and even helped me feel less overwhelmed about my breastfeeding journey.
