Baloo Stonewashed Linen Sheets Promise Durable Luxury, but How Well Do They Hold Up?

I love putting sheets on my bed. I know this is a nearly universally hated chore, but I actually love it. I love the pace of moving back and forth between the sides of the bed to make sure everything is in the right spot. I love how the bed looks when everything’s neat and no one has jumped on it yet. I love the feel of climbing into freshly washed sheets at night.

Unboxing the Sheets

Baloo offers free carbon-neutral shipping, and the sheets came minimally packaged inside a box that was just the right size. Does anyone else get confused when the box is three times the size of the product? That wasn’t the case with these sheets. Inside the box, there was a linen dust bag and the sheets were inside of that.

After I took the sheets out of the dust bag, I washed and dried them using the Wad-Free bed sheet detangler to expedite washing and drying time. Then, I put them on the bed.

The Feel

These sheets feel incredibly soft. They’re supposed to get softer after every wash, and I definitely think they have. They’ve held up really well in the washer over the last year, and they’re so cozy to get into every night. In fact, we used to put flannel sheets on our bed in the winter and then switch back to percale sheets in the summer, but I’ve left these on year round.

This past summer, I almost switched them out because it was really hot, but we ended up leaving them on, and just sleeping without the top sheet when necessary.

The Look

I love the casual chic look that these sheets bring to the bedroom. They always look a bit wrinkled and tousled which I think makes the bed look even more cozy and inviting than normal. Even though they have a natural wrinkle to them, they smooth out really nicely when I make the bed, especially after they’re freshly washed. We have the Oatmeal, and it looks very soft and neutral.

Honestly, when I put them on our bed, I feel very “with it.” I take a little extra time to make a ritual of putting the sheets back on after a wash, and I put care into making the bed every day. I’m never going to be one to iron my sheets — the only time I touch the iron is to finish my kids’ perler bead projects — so the naturally wrinkled look is right up my alley.

The Price

At $344, these sheets seemed expensive, but I’ve been working on focusing on cost-per-use rather than the upfront cost. I’m pretty frugal, so I usually balk at higher priced items, even if I know I’m paying for quality. 

That’s why I like to actually look at the math.

If you use these sheets every night for one year, you’re looking at a cost-per-use of $0.94 per night. But, let’s be honest, you’re probably not going to toss them out after a year. 

If you use these sheets for 5 years, that’s 1,825 nights, so you’ll pay $0.18 per night over 5 years.

For a good night’s sleep on cozy sheets, that seems worth it to me.

The Care

I always joke that if I can’t throw a clothing or bedding item into the washer, it’s not coming into my house. Actually, that’s not a joke. It’s a rule. When I saw that these sheets were machine wash cold, tumble dry low, I was good to go. That’s what I do for almost everything anyway. 

I use Wad-Free bed sheet detanglers any time I wash my sheets to cut down on dry time. I put these on the corners of both the fitted and flat sheets, and then toss them into the wash. The instructions say to remove the sheets from the dryer promptly, but I rarely get to them right when they finish drying, and I haven’t had any issues. That would probably make them a little less wrinkled than they usually end up, but like I said, earlier, I like that look. If you prefer them to be smoother, you can also iron them on low heat.

Spending over $300 to put sheets on your bed can still seem a bit steep, which is why I love that Baloo offers a quality guarantee.
