If you remember anything from high school science class, you might remember that copper is one of the best metals for heat conduction. Naturally, this makes sense when translating to cookware for even heat distribution (and fast heat up).

I’ve loved cooking with stainless steel pans for a few years now, but I’ll admit I was curious about the hype surrounding copper pans. Backed by celebrity chef Bobby Flay, I decided to put Bobby Flay pots and pans at the top of my list when it came time to try copper pans. Here’s what I discovered on my journey trying Bobby Flay Copper Clad pans by GreenPan.

Attractive Cookware

From an aesthetic perspective, there’s no question that these pans make you feel like a “legit” cook. If you’re seeking a cookware set that feels elevated and makes cooking fun, these are certainly your answer.

Unpacking the set I noticed that each piece felt very hefty and sturdy — the kind of cookware you’d expect from a real restaurant. The shiny copper finish is pretty and matches nearly any kitchen.

In browsing around for copper pans, I noticed that pieces in this 8-piece set are sold individually. If you’re not ready to make the leap for a whole set, perhaps trying an individual piece from the set is a good place to start.

Pros

  • Professional cooking at home
  • Handle doesnt get too hot when cooking
  • Even heating surface
  • Attractive copper finish
  • Very solid feeling
  • Comes with glass lids

Cons

  • Hand-wash only
  • Stickers on packaging leave a residue that's a bit hard to get off
  • Not the most lightweight cookware

Cleaning and Care

For me, one of the biggest downsides of this Bobby Flay pan set is that all pieces are hand-wash only. However, I recognize that sometimes this is a sacrifice you have to make if you want top-tier cookware. I live in a busy household where hand-washing pans isn’t always my top choice. Yet, the performance of these pans does make the extra minute to hand-wash worthwhile.

Although the pans in this Bobby Flay pan set are not dishwasher-safe, they are pretty easy to clean. Some simple soap and water does the trick and I have had no issues scrubbing off residue from these pans.

In fact, I found them easier to clean than my Hex Clads (which always seem to need a hefty scrubbing to wash). After cleaning, make sure to hand dry right away using a soft towel to avoid any strange spotting and to maintain that bright, copper shine.

The brand does recommend using a copper cleaner if you find that they lose their shine over time.

Bobby Flay Set Sizing

I really like the sizes of pots and pans in this Bobby Flay 8-piece set. In many cookware sets I’ve tried, there’s always at least one or two pans that aren’t sizes that would be used in everyday cooking. This is not the case with this Copper Clad cookware set.

The 8 and 10 inch frying pans are the most versatile sizes for every home cook — and the ones I find myself using the most. From scrambled eggs to frying up onions and peppers, I really love that these sizes are included.

In addition to the 8-inch and 10-inch Bobby Flay Copper Clad pans, this set also comes with three pieces with matching glass lids. These are the 2-Quart Copper Clad Chef’s Pan with lid, the 4-Quart Copper Clad Sauté Pan with lid, and the 6-Quart Stockpot.

Of all five of the pieces in this set, I’d say the stockpot is the least frequent one I use. But overall, the diversity of sizes caters to a wide range of home cooks.

In My Expert Opinion

Bobbyflay Cooking pans

Copper cookware tends to come with a high price point which can scare many people away. As you shop for cookware, remember that you do get what you pay for.

If you’re seeking a long-lasting set that is durable and can withstand everyday cooking, I recommend splurging on a higher-end set like this Bobby Flay cookware set. Copper can be expensive but it sure does heat up like a champ.
