While I probably don’t vacuum and mop my floors as much as I should, I aim for a good pass with both at least once a week. By the time the kids put away all their toys, I grab any loose items from the floor, and drag out the vacuum, I’m already a half hour into the process. That’s why I was so excited when I got to try a review sample of the Narwal S20 Pro, an all-in-one vacuum and mop with self-cleaning and drying features. I did receive this as a sample, but all opinions expressed in this review are mine.

While I’ve written about vacuums and mops in the past, my hands-on experience has been fairly limited, so I really didn’t know what to expect when I pulled it out of the box. The setup was easy, and since there’s no app to go along with it, it was pretty much a plug-in and go situation. I had to fill the water tank and put in the cleaning solution that came with it, and it was time to clean!

Take a Closer Look at the S20 Pro’s Features
The S20 Pro comes with a number of features that make cleaning easy. Multiple modes allow you to customize the vacuum’s suction, power, and noise level based on your needs, and the dirt detection feature lets you know when to spend a little more time on certain areas. Other features include a swivel handle and self-propelling wheels, voice prompts, and a self-cleaning mode. Let’s take a closer look at what the S20 Pro has to offer.
The Modes
The S20 Pro has five cleaning modes that help get the floors as clean as possible:
- Auto Mode: This mode auto adjusts to meet the cleaning needs based on the floor’s condition. It will sense the dirt level and adapt the suction and water flow as needed.
- Suction Mode: If you need to mop up liquids or fine debris, you can use this mode.
- Quiet Mode: This will make the S20 Pro quieter if you don’t want to disturb others in the house.
- Turbo Mode: If you need some extra cleaning power, you can activate Turbo Mode to do a deeper clean.
- Max Mode: To activate Max Mode, you have to pull the trigger on the handle, and then it will offer maximum power to clean stubborn stains.
The AI DirtSenseTM Feature
If there’s an area of the floor that’s extra dirty, the vacuum will activate the AI DirtSenseTM feature and activate stronger cleaning power. I usually do a few extra passes over the areas where the vacuum detects dirt because sometimes it’s not visible.
The Swivel Handle and Self-Propelled Wheels
The swivel handle and self-propelling wheels make cleaning effortless. The handle is very comfortable to hang on to, and my nine-year-old has a great time maneuvering it around the house. The handle also lays completely flat in case you have low furniture that you need to get under.
The Voice Prompts
I wasn’t sure what I would think about a vacuum that talks to me, but the voice prompts are actually really helpful. The vacuum alerts you when the water tank needs to be filled, when you need to return it to the base, and when to activate self-cleaning
The Self-Cleaning Mode
After you finish using the S20 Pro it will prompt you to return the vacuum to the base for self-cleaning. All you have to do is hit the button on the front of the wand, and it will start cleaning itself. It uses high heat to disinfect the brush and will use detergent if it detects high dirt levels.

What I love about the S20 Pro
We live in the country, so there’s plenty of dirt to contend with around the house. Pair that with kids and the requisite spilled food and crumbs, there’s always somewhere that could use vacuuming and probably mopping. I love that it’s really easy to grab the S20 Pro off of its charging dock, hold the power button for a few seconds, and then use its self-propelled power to clean up any messes.
I primarily use it in the kitchen to do a quick pass after making supper, but on days that the floors need a good cleaning, I’ll do all of the hard floors in the living room and dining room, too.
What I Don’t Love About the S20 Pro
There’s not a ton that I don’t love about the S20 Pro, but cleaning the water tank and dust bin along with the noise level during self-cleaning are definite cons in my book.
It Need to Be Emptied and Cleaned after Each Use
The vacuum is self-cleaning and self-drying, but that only pertains to the roller brush. The actual dirty water tank and dust bin need to be manually cleaned after each use. If you’re like me and think that it’s optional, it’s definitely not.
Despite the fact that the vacuum clearly says “clean dirty water tank to avoid bacterial growth” when it finishes its self-cleaning cycle, I neglected to clean it, and after a few uses, the inside of the water tank and dust bin got moldy and started to smell. It’s fairly easy to remove the water tank and empty it out, but it does create an extra step, but as soon as I gave everything a good scrub, the smell went away.
Self-Cleaning Mode Is Loud
The only other thing that I really don’t like is that the self-cleaning mode is pretty loud. When the vacuum is cleaning, I think the noise level is about average, and you can also switch to Quiet Mode if you want to reduce the volume level. But when it’s in self-cleaning mode, it’s hard to hear the T.V. or have a conversation at a normal volume.

My Final Thoughts on the S20 Pro
At this point, I’ve tested a robot vacuum/mop as well as used my trusty Shark vacuum and Swiffer WetJet to clean my floors, and this one definitely has its advantages. One thing I like about this one as opposed to a robot is that I have control over it. If there’s a spill on the floor or the kitchen floor is messy after cooking, I can grab the S20 Pro and run it over the dirty area for a quick clean.
It also saves a step using this one rather than using a separate vacuum and mop and having to go over the floors twice. At nearly $500, it’s definitely an investment, and I’m terrified that I’m going to break it running over a loose Lego or pile of beads, but so far, so good. While I wouldn’t say I can’t live without it, it definitely makes keeping the floors clean less of a chore.
