As the best-reviewed sleep brand since 2010, Saatva is a great premium brand when it comes time to buy a mattress. The brand only has one crib mattress on their product line up, featuring a dual-sided design to adapt to your growing baby through their toddler years.

Right from unboxing, I was pleased with the quality of the Saatva crib mattress. Of course, it does feel pretty firm to the touch — but that’s by design for safety. The exterior includes a removable and washable cover made from a soft, breathable blend that includes organic cotton and treated with an eco-conscious water-repellent. As far as crib mattresses go, it’s certainly on the heavier side, but it’s not so heavy that it’s impossible to change the sheets alone.

While it’s not a necessity, I do like that this crib mattress is GREENGUARD Gold certified, an ideal choice for parents who care about toxic materials in their homes. This certification means that the product is certified low VOCs (volatile organic compounds) and total chemical emissions.

Is the Saatva Crib Mattress Worth Spending On?

The question of whether or not the Saatva Crib Mattress is worth spending on ultimately comes down to your budget. Priced at $359, this mattress surely does feel premium and like a top-of-the-line choice.

That being said, you don’t HAVE to spend that much to get a safe, comfortable spot for your baby to sleep. Other Points to Consider

As you shop for the Saatva crib mattress, the weight of the mattress is also worth considering. If you have any type of mobility issues (i.e. shoulder problems) or are solo parenting, you may find a lighter weight crib mattress to be preferable in terms of changing sheets. For the average adult, lifting 18 pounds to change the sheets on this crib mattress is not difficult at all.

The included crib mattress cover is also a really nice feature. With the easy zip-off access, you can regularly wash this and not have to worry about purchasing a separate cover.

In My Expert Opinion

If you don’t care about premium offerings like number of coils, organic cotton, and so on, you may not find this crib mattress worth it. For me, I love the peace of mind knowing I’ve chosen a top-tier option for my baby and that I won’t need to replace the mattress in a year. I like that this mattress uses organic wool as its its flame barrier and doesn’t contain fiberglass.

If you want to splurge and get your baby the best of the best in terms of safety, the Saatva Crib Mattress is an excellent buy. Sure, you may splurge upfront but this crib mattress will last (and can even be used if you’re planning to have another baby in the future).
