The Ubhome M10 Smart Robot Lawn Mower Offers a Virtually Hands-Free Way to Maintain a Manicured Lawn Like a Pro

With each new iteration, robotic lawn mowers are getting smarter, more efficient, and easier to set up and use. This is the case with the Ubhome M10 smart robot lawn mower. Using a series of sensors, RTK (real-time kinematic) positioning technology with AI integration, GPS, vision fusion technology (using cameras), and the feature-packed U Mower mobile app (available for iOS or Android), this robotic mower does a nice job navigating around a lawn and avoiding obstacles.

Its overall design includes two large rear wheels (and two smaller front wheels) that give this robot excellent mobility and navigational accuracy on flat or uneven terrain and even on slopes. Unlike other robotic mowers, this one comes with a reference station that has a signal radius of around 688 feet. If you have a front and back yard, two reference stations may be required for the robot to maintain a clear navigational signal, and its one to two centimeter accuracy.

If you’re looking to forego a traditional push lawn mower and tap the capabilities of a more automated robotic mover, and you have less than 0.25 acres of land that needs to be mowed at once, the Ubhome M10 is a great option. Over the past few years, I have tested a handful of robotic mowers from popular brands, including the LawnMaster OcuMow and Mammotion Luba 2, so I was excited when the folks at Ubhome provided me with a review unit of its M10 to test out. 

I found this robotic mower to be among the easiest to use and most versatile. Keep reading to learn more about this smart device, and discover if it’s a viable option for your own mowing and lawn manicuring needs.

Who Will the Ubhome M10 Smart Robotic Lawn Mower Appeal To?

The Ubhome M10 smart robotic lawn mower appeals mainly to homeowners with .025 acres (or less), since this is the amount of land the robot can mow on a single battery charge. That said, using the U Homer app, it’s easy to set up multiple zones, so larger plots of land can be divided and pre-mapped, allowing the mower to handle one zone at a time and recharge in between tasks.

This is one of the easiest and most versatile robotic mowers available, so it will also appeal to people who are not too tech-savvy, but want to replace their traditional push mower with a device that is controlled primarily using a mobile app. The M10 ultimately requires minimal physical exertion to complete a mowing task. 

The mower comes with its own charging station and returns to it automatically when it needs to be recharged or it’s completed an assigned task. But, if you need to physically carry the M10, it has a built in handle and weighs in at just under 28 pounds. 

Like all robotic mowers that I’ve tested, this one takes longer to complete mowing tasks than a traditional push mower. What’s more, this robot still needs to be supervised. But this supervision can be done remotely via the app, so while the robot is doing its thing, you can be relaxing outside on a lounge chair or indoors watching TV. 

The most complicated thing about using the M10 is the initial setup process, but Uhome has produced a series of easy-to-understand tutorial videos to guide you through this process. And the mobile app is very helpful, too. On a down note, the printed owner’s manual is very short and lacks a lot of instruction.

Using the Ubhome M10 Smart Robotic Lawn Mower

One of the things that I like most about this mower is that once you use the app to map out your property, the robot uses its internal sensors, cameras, and other technologies to navigate and move around obstacles. Unlike some robotic mowers, there are no boundary wires to place around your lawn to keep the mower from driving off your property, falling off a ledge, accidently cutting down your flower garden, or crashing into a rock formation (or your mailbox). 

The mower is also designed to avoid living obstacles, like kids and pets, but I highly recommend you keep them away from the M10 while it’s operating. The blades rotate at extremely fast speed and are very sharp. It’s better to take precautions and use common sense than to simply rely on technology. Also, make sure the robot is powered off before turning it over to clean, and always keep body parts clear of the blades, even when the mower is turned off.

Using the U Mower app, during the setup process, it’s important to work with the mower to map out your property and establish virtual boundaries either as one zone or multiple zones. This only needs to be done once. After that, you can press a few buttons on your smartphone to initiate the mowing process or create a pre-set schedule for the mower to automatically handle specific mowing tasks. You can even use your smartphone as a handheld remote control and drive the mower around in real-time.

While there are onboard controls built into the top of the M10, I found it’s easier to handle all control over the robot using the mobile app on your iPhone, iPad, or Android mobile device. During the mowing process, the M10 uses its nine built in sensors to compensate for various lawn conditions and maintain an even cutting height (which you can preset between 1.2 and 2.4 inches).

I discovered that the M10 does an excellent job maintaining an even cutting height, even when mowing across uneven terrain. And instead of using a bag to collect the clippings, it chops them up into extremely small pieces. This acts as natural fertilizer and soil conditioner, because they decompose very quickly. 

Yes, the M10 is waterproof, but it should not be used in heavy rain. Luckily, there’s a built-in rain sensor that determines when it starts raining, and automatically sends the mower back to its charging station. When the rain subsides, the robot can automatically pick up where it left off to finish its preassigned or scheduled mowing task. One thing I found is that after each mowing session, it’s a good idea to quickly rinse the bottom of the mower using a garden hose.

I also appreciate that the mower makes minimal noise — no more than 52 decibels (which is about the same volume as two people having a face-to-face conversation). Since it’s battery powered, the robot generates no gas fumes or emissions, like traditional gas-powered push mowers. The M10 also requires less ongoing maintenance. 

Since purchasing the Ubhome M10 smart robotic lawn mower requires a rather significant investment, the device has a built-in anti-theft system that activates anytime the mower is removed from its designated safe zone, which is set during the setup process.

My Final Thoughts: Is the Ubhome M10 Smart Robotic Lawn Mower Worth It?

Prior to working on this review, I was not familiar with the Ubhome brand. It turns out, Ubtech Robotics Corp., Ltd. is based in Shenzhen, China, and was founded in 2021. The company is an industry leader in developing humanoid robots and smart service robots, like the M10 smart robotic mower. Ubtech Robotics employs more than 2,000 people, half of which work in the R&D department. 

The company owns more than 2,450 worldwide patents, and has a presence in more than 50 countries around the world. The U.S. office for the consumer-oriented Ubhome robotic lawn mower is based in Ontario, California. When developing the M10 robotic mower, the company clearly relied on its experience developing enterprise-level robots and incorporated the technology required to make this consumer-friendly lawn mower function exceptionally well.

Best on my testing, the Ubhome M10 smart robotic lawn mower works exactly how it’s designed to. The unit itself has an attractive appearance with a bright greenish/yellow colored main body made from heavy-duty, highly visible plastic. The main robot is also rather compact measuring 16.4 inches wide by 23.7 inches long by 10 inches tall, and it’s durable. I was particularly impressed by the intuitive design of the U Mower mobile app, too.

While there are certainly better robotic options for larger size lawns, for mowing 0.25 acres at a time, the Ubhome M10 offers a really good value. It can easily be programmed to navigate effortlessly around almost any lawn.
