For many years, I lived in a house that literally didn’t have a good spot to light a candle — plus, all of the kids were very little. Now, I have an island and kids who know to stay away from the candle when it’s lit, so it’s safe to say, I love burning a candle, especially when it fits the season perfectly.
Fall is a time to slow down and get cozy, and there’s no better way to do that than with a fall-scented candle. There are tons of candle brands out there, many of which use artificial fragrances and aren’t healthy to burn inside your home. Some candle brands, however, really pay attention to creating candles that are safe, non-toxic, and perfect for fall.
While I won’t claim to live an entirely non-toxic lifestyle, I do try to make the best decisions that I can for my health and the health of my family — enter Fontana Candle Co. When the company reached out and offered a candle to test, I was very excited. I chose their Fireside scent that blends palo santo, pink grapefruit, black pepper, and vetiver. It was the perfect addition to the fall vibes that I’m going for this year.

About Fontana Candle Co.
Fontana Candle Co. began in 2017 when newlyweds Eric and Katie Roering were given a brand name candle. They loved the smell but, after burning it in their home, they noticed that they had headaches and started to feel terrible. That moment led them on a journey to create a better candle, one made from beeswax, so it’s non-toxic and clean burning. The wooden wick further supports the clean burn.
They learned that there weren’t many beeswax candles on the market because beeswax on its own is too hard and doesn’t hold scent well. After 150 attempts, they discovered that by blending beeswax with coconut oil, they had something that worked. Moving forward, they began using essential oils instead of fragrance oils and ultimately began producing 100% non-toxic candles — the first to be certified MADE SAFE®.
Fontana Candle Co. Offers Natural Ingredients and Peace of Mind

I’ve heard about the dangers of traditional candles, but sometimes I just want my home to smell good and have been guilty of burning my fair share, which also comes with a fair share of guilt about what my family is breathing in. According to the Cleveland Clinic, candles release trace amounts of toluene and benzene, both volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that have potential negative health effects, but there isn’t enough research to warrant snuffing candles out entirely. In fact, the article says, “it’s important to note that the science isn’t strong enough to suggest we should stop buying and burning candles.”
The National Candle Association also supports the safety of all candles, saying that no studies have confirmed that candle wax, including petroleum-based paraffin, are harmful to health. Regardless, I’d rather know that I’m bringing natural ingredients into my home whenever possible. Since Fontana Candle Co. is MADE SAFE® Certified, it’s free of any and all toxins known or suspected to harm human health, animals, or ecosystems. That means that when they say their candles are non-toxic, they actually are non-toxic.
There Are Tons of Fall-Scented Options

Reviewing candles can be a challenge because the true test comes in their smell, but I can confirm that the scent was absolutely lovely. I prefer earthier scents, and this one delivered. Fontana offers lots of scents, but they truly excel at fall scents that include Pumpkin Pie, Warm Flannel, Honey Ember, Cozy Cabin, and of course, Fireside.
If fall or holiday scents aren’t your jam, you can choose from a range of classic scents, including Lavendar, Fresh Linen, Lemongrass Eucalyptus, Pure Vanilla, and more.
In My Expert Opinion: Little Features Create a Delightful Experience
Fontana Candle Co Wood Wick Beeswax Candle
One of my favorite candle features is a wooden wick. I love the crackling sound that it makes, and this candle produced a very good flame. I also love that Fontana Candle Co. prints the list of ingredients right on the jar, and I can pronounce all of them — my six-year-old can, too! I ended up going through the entire candle pretty quickly. I’m not sure if that’s because the candle itself burns quickly or just because I burned it so often. Guess I’ll have to get another one to find out!
If you’re looking for a perfect fall or holiday scent, Fontana Candle Co. is the way to go. If you’re looking for a great gift, you could purchase one of their bundles and have them on hand for hostess gifts, teacher gifts, and friend gifts.
