As a longtime sleep writer and editor, I admit to being a little fanatical about my bedding. But that’s entirely due to the fact that I learned long ago the significance of great sheets for great sleep. I’ve tested sheets made with percale, sateen, a fancy “plant cashmere,” flannel, linen, and the list goes on. That’s not to say there aren’t any drawbacks, but I’m willing to overlook a few minor inconveniences for consistently dreamy nights. Let’s break it down.

Silky Soft In The Best Way

It’s fair to say that most people judge sheets right off the bat by how they feel. It’s understandable. If you’re going to be snuggled in bed for seven or eight hours night after night, best to do it with sheets you find personally comfortable. For most of us, softness is key and this set clears that bar with room to spare. If you’ve never felt viscose from bamboo, it has the supple, buttery-smooth softness of silk without the slippery feel. They’re cool to the touch, which is incredible on warm nights, and we’ve already established that they don’t trap heat. But that doesn’t mean bamboo sheets aren’t lightly insulating. When it’s cold, the fibers can keep a layer of warm air close to your body so you stay cozy. Here in northern Nevada, we have all four seasons and these sheets work beautifully year round.

Low Maintenance And Impressively Durable

Caring for Cozy Earth’s bamboo sheets is straightforward. They can be washed in cold water (no fabric softeners) and tumbled dry on low. I try to get them out of the dryer when they’re still warm because they can get a little wrinkled. Those seem to smooth out as soon as we put them on the bed, but if you run into any issues, the brand has a suggestion. Pull them out of the dryer while they’re still slightly damp and put them on the bed to smooth out any wrinkles.

Durability is a hallmark of viscose from bamboo (and the sateen weave itself), and so far, that’s been my experience. We’ve slept on these sheets consistently for a few years with zero pilling. I haven’t noticed pulled or loose threads and the elastic trim on the fitted sheet is as snappy as ever.

The Sustainability Factor

Viscose from bamboo has a reputation for being eco-friendly, but that’s not always the case. Sure, bamboo itself is natural and renewable. It can grow a few feet in a day, it regenerates from its own roots, it has lower water needs than cotton and it doesn’t require fertilizers or pesticides. But whether or not the finished product can truly be considered eco-friendly comes down to how it’s manufactured.

I wrote a story about this very topic a few years ago and interviewed Peter Hauser, a professor emeritus in the Textile Engineering, Chemistry and Science Department at North Carolina State University. His take was that companies using closed loop systems and fair labor practices with OEKO-TEX certifications for their products could legitimately claim to be eco-friendly. And yes, Cozy Earth has all three.

A Word on Fit

Cozy Earth describes its sheets as oversized with a generous fit. That’s accurate—we have no issues tugging the fitted sheet into place on our ridiculously tall mattress, which measures roughly 18 inches or so. But the generous fit could potentially pose an issue if you have a mattress in the 10 to 12-inch range. I seriously dislike fitted sheets that aren’t, well, fitted, and the cut of these sheets may mean extra material on a lower mattress. On the plus side, the brand does offer a 100-day trial, so that’s something you could test.

Specs and Details

There’s not a ton of room to get creative when you’re selling a sheet set, but these have a few nice touches. The fitted sheet has little “top,” “bottom” and “side” tags that help when you’re making the bed, and the packaging is stellar. The sheets come in a beautiful canvas bag that can be repurposed indefinitely (for now, it’s ideal as a sleepover bag for our youngest). The sheets don’t come wrapped in miles of plastic, either—another nod to the eco-conscious thing.

The sheets have a sateen weave (a one over/three or four under pattern), which contributes to its smooth, silky feel and boosts durability. The sheets come with a 100-day trial window, which isn’t very common, and they’re backed by a 10-year warranty.

Warranties always sound reassuring, but it’s important to read the fine print. The brand’s bedding and bath products are protected against pilling, abnormal rips and tears, and workmanship defects for a full 10 years, but it doesn’t include what Cozy Earth describes as “normal wear or tear or discoloration.” Something to keep in mind, especially when you see the cost of these sheets.

That’s still pricey, even with the discount, but good sheets can realistically last years if you’re taking care of them. Break down the cost from that perspective, and the price becomes a little more palatable.

Cozy Earth Bamboo Sheets: Yay Or Nay?

You can probably tell by now that I’m an enthusiastic fan of these sheets. In my experience, they’re absolutely worth the exorbitant price tag and the value is definitely there. We’ve slept on these sheets for several years without a single issue, and every single time I get into bed, I literally sigh with happiness because they’re so soft and comfortable. I miss my bed when I travel, which really tells me everything I need to know. If you’re still sleeping on conventional cotton or, God forbid, any kind of synthetic material, treat yourself to these sheets and thank me later.
