Eufy’s Robot Vacuum Omni S2 Keeps My Floor Cleaner Than It’s Ever Been

The eufy Robot Vacuum Omni S2 is a sophisticated vacuum-and-mop robot. It provides hands-free cleaning and vacuuming for carpet and hard floors as well as mopping for hard floors. The robot vacuum’s base requires minimal maintenance, meaning a daily clean truly can be automatic and hands-free.

As a busy toddler mom juggling childcare, home care, and work, I’d toyed with the idea of a robot vacuum before an opportunity surfaced to test out the Eufy Robot Vacuum Omni S2. Eufy sent me its newest vacuum-and-mop robot to test, and I’m excited to share my experience and opinion after using it for several weeks.

My bottom line: If you have room in your budget, Eufy’s Omni S2 seamlessly checks “mop and vacuum” off your to-do list.

Setting Up the Eufy Omni S2 Robot Vacuum and Mop

Eufy leads with an easy set-up process for its Omni S2 robot vacuum. I opened the (very heavy) package to a large poster atop the boxed pieces. Simple icons and directions guided unpacking and assembling the Omni S2, and a QR code led me to the user guide, set-up, and other helpful videos, and the link to download the accompanying app.

I couldn’t use my first-choice location in my living room for the Omni S2 because I hadn’t considered how much space it needed around it. The instructions recommend 4.95 feet in front of the base and 1.65 feet to the sides. I placed it along a more open wall, which made it more visible than I’d like, but at least it has a sleek and fairly unobtrusive aesthetic.

The cord needs to be grounded (in lay terms, it has a 3-pronged plug), so you’ll need a spot that both has enough space for the robot vacuum to come in and out, and is close to an electrical outlet. To be picky, I wish the cord plug were the type that sits a bit flatter against the wall, as it protrudes nearly 5 inches before the cord is flexible enough to bend, but the placement isn’t overly affected by it.

Set up included assembling the few major components of the robot vacuum and inserting the cleaner bottle. I was pleasantly surprised that the fragrance is separate and optional; I opted not to add the fragrance as I generally prefer unscented products in my home. I also filled the water tank for the mopping function.

Another App?

I honestly sighed a bit at the thought of adding another app to my phone, but I was all-in when I realized that 1) I could lock manual use of the robot vacuum buttons from the app and 2) the app has a ton of customization options, including vacuum-only and which rooms or zones you want cleaned or avoided. (The Omni S2 does have buttons on the machine for manual operation for basic vacuuming and mopping if you truly don’t want to use the app.)

Once I downloaded the app and set up my Eufy account, I was presented with what initially felt like endless options and customizations. The first option I selected was to turn off manual use of the buttons, essentially child- and dog-proofing the robot vacuum from accidental operation by curious members of my household.

Getting Started: Mapping and First Cleaning

My excitement over a clean floor without the work led me to just tap the start button on my app rather than look through the full user guide or app options. About 10 minutes into its first clean, I realized I should have “mapped” it first. With the tap of a button, I sent it home to its base.

To map the Omni S2, I had to clear everything off the floor (my toddler’s toys, my napping dog, and a misplaced chair). I then set up barriers for areas I didn’t want it to map: I barricaded my dog’s corner and a portion of the dining room with the empty eufy shipping box, random baskets and bins, and a large package of paper towels.

I tapped the app button to start mapping, and the eufy robot vacuum revved to life and took off like an exploratory robot around the perimeter of my living room and kitchen. It gently bumped and brushed against my walls and boxes-and-bins barriers before returning to its base, using its robot voice to announce “mapping complete.”

After mapping, I had it again start cleaning, and it went to work mopping the hard floors and vacuuming the area rugs.

Cleaning Efficiency of the Omni S2 Vacuum-and-Mop Robot

The Omni S2 delivers a great daily clean for both carpeting and hard floors. In my observation, its vacuuming ability on carpets is similar to that of my regular vacuum (particularly when I set the Omni S2’s suction setting to “turbo”). It impressed me with how closely it cleans to the walls and furniture on its first perimeter pass. Additionally, it didn’t get bogged down with dog hair, making it a great robot vacuum for pet owners.

For mopping, I rank its visible cleaning efficacy closely to using my manual spray mop and a bit of elbow grease. This assessment is based on how well it cleaned both new spots and a week-old coffee spill stain off my kitchen floor. I was thrilled with the mopping function of the Omni S2, as it delivered a solid clean with zero manual effort on my part while also sucking up crumbs and dog hair. For hands-free cleaning, the Eufy robot vacuum and mop feels a bit like magic.

The Omni S2 also does a great job with spills. My toddler upended a cup of milk the other day, splashing it across cabinets and a large portion of the floor. While the Eufy couldn’t help with wiping down the cabinets, I did set it to mop just the kitchen (thanks to its zone-cleaning option) as soon as I’d handled the vertical surfaces. It efficiently mopped up the small puddles of milk and left my floor with zero sticky spots or spoiled milk odor.

I appreciate the invisible features, as well, including the self-cleaning mop so dirty water isn’t being recycled across the floor. It also uses electrolyzed water for 99.99% sterilization, according to Eufy’s website, which is a huge bonus for a home with a toddler and a dog.

Vacuuming on the hard floor was the only bump I had in loving the Eufy Omni S2. My dog sheds like it’s her job, and I noticed the Eufy was blowing some bits of dog hair to the side on each pass it took, eventually leaving a few tufts along the perimeter of the room after it returned to its base, “task finished.” Adjusting to turbo and deep clean settings helped this on future runs, and customer service recommend setting a “zone cleaning” second task to run the room edges again. Using the Eufy on a Daily Basis

Beyond the magic of a clean floor with no work on my part, there’s a lot to like about Eufy’s Omni S2 robot vacuum. It features a lengthy list of impressive specs, features, and customizations, and I’m going to share the highlights of what these cool features did for my home.

Expert Navigation

I was impressed on my second time running the Omni S2 — after removing the mapping barricades — at how accurately it “remembered” those barriers. It ran a straight line along where the barricade had been, not straying into my “no-go” zone for my dog’s corner even when unblocked.

The robot vacuum also seamlessly navigated between carpet and hard floor, switching from mopping to vacuuming action precisely at the change-over point. It had no problem handling my large, low-pile area rug, or my medium-pile door mats.

The Omni S2 is fun to watch in corners and weird spaces, as it backs in and out to clean the space. I was shocked at how well it navigated in, out, and around the chairs and dining room table legs — it did a superior job to me using my regular vacuum as it actually fit through the chair legs and sucked up the clumps of dog hair and collection of crumbs I typically have to move all the furniture to get to.

On subsequent cleaning runs, I’ve left various small furniture and toys out, and it has simply navigated around them. The robot did gently bump into some of the stray objects, so I think it’s important to mind the safety instructions regarding clearing the floor of cords and other objects that could catch and drag.

Reasonable Volume

I’ve run the Eufy robot vacuum during the day with my toddler and dog in the room and after my toddler’s bedtime, and I’ve been pleased with the volume of the machine. While running, I’d rate it as quiet enough to read a book in the same room and not wake my sleeping child across the house, but a little too loud to pleasantly watch television in the same room as it’s cleaning.

The robot voice that gives brief notifications, such as “task finished,” is customizable in the app (volume level and language).

The dust bin emptying is the loudest the Eufy Omni S2 gets, and it is pretty loud, but short-lived. You can opt to use the “Low-Noise empty” instead of the standard setting, but the low-noise setting isn’t recommended for homes with pet hair.

The mop takes several hours to dry, and its volume is that of a low fan. You definitely can watch television or have a comfortable conversation in the same room while it dries the mop.

Child- and Pet-Friendly Operation

While the safety instructions say to keep children and pets out of the area of operation, I did test the boundaries of this a bit while closely supervising.

My toddler thinks the Omni S2 looks like a turtle when it’s in action (leading us to nickname it “Shelly”). As I mentioned above, you can disable manual operation of the Omni S2’s buttons in the app, child-proofing it from accidental operation. With my child’s turtle fascination focused on the Eufy, I’ve been grateful for the child-locked buttons.

Eufy’s robot vacuum is also incredibly dog-friendly. When my dog, who was completely unbothered by the robot, refused to move from her spot on the floor, the Omni S2 gently bounced off her and went around her as it continued to vacuum. The robot vacuum also lives up to its claims on the Eufy website and has handled all the dog hair in my house without any tangles (an impressive feat compared to other vacuums I’ve owned over the last decade of having a dog).

I would never leave either child or dog unattended while the Eufy was running, but I was pleased that it was able to run safely and unobtrusively (except for my toddler shouting “Turtle! Turtle!”) with everyone in the room.

Maintenance

Of course, the hands-free-cleaning magic can’t be forever. You do have to take care of the Omni S2 with a few maintenance tasks.

The app shows how much longer you have until performing the various maintenance tasks. The basic items, such as emptying the dirty water tank, are simple. For the dirty water tank on the Omni S2’s base, I simple pulled it up, opened it and realized how gross the water was, walked outside to dump it, and then did a quick rinse in the sink. I slid it back into its spot on the base and was done in less than two minutes.

The more complex ones, such as cleaning the robot’s brushes, are still way in the future for me, according to the app’s “Maintain” log.

Customer Service

As expected for such a tech-forward company, Eufy’s online chat connected me with an AI bot, named Grace. It provided some info in response to my question (“Can I add a final edge pass to the end of a cleaning task?”), but it didn’t actually help me solve my problem.

I then reached out to the customer service email with the same question. They returned my email the next morning (a Monday) and suggested running a zone cleaning for the edges of the room after the main run. I found Eufy’s customer support by email to be quick and helpful.
