The 2026 Dell XPS 14 Delivers Versatile Computing Power with an Ultra Thin Design

These days, it’s just as easy to find low-cost Windows 11 laptops as it is to find souped-up, high-end models. However, the 2026 Dell XPS 14 falls into the mid-priced category, with a starting price around $2,000. Three standout features of this laptop are its extremely thin design, up to a 31 hour battery life and extensive customization options. 

The folks at Dell recently provided me with a review unit of the 2026 Dell XPS 14 (model DA14260) laptop, configured with an Intel Series 3 Core Ultra 5 325 processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD for storage. The laptop also included a 14-inch, non-touchscreen, 2K resolution display with a refresh rate up to 120Hz, and a maximum brightness of 500 nits.

As I unboxed this laptop, the first thing I noticed was its thin and lightweight design. I also took notice of the extra-large and highly sensitive touchpad located below the backlit keyboard. Then, as I began setting up the laptop, the relatively small, convenient size of the included charger also caught my attention.

What the 2026 Dell XPS 14 Offers

My only complaint about the 2026 Dell XPS 14 laptop is its limited port selection. On the left side of the device, you get two USB Type-C ports, and on the right, there’s just one additional USB Type-C port and a standard 3.5-inch audio jack.

When you plug the laptop into a power outlet using the included charger, this requires using one of the three USB Type-C ports. 

That said, the battery life of this laptop is impressive. The display (with its up to 120Hz refresh rate and up to 500 nits brightness) is easy on the eyes. And the backlit keyboard offers a comfortable typing experience.

I was also impressed by the oversize touchpad located below the keyboard. The Dell XPS 14 is a well-made, general purpose Windows 11 laptop that provides full integration with the latest Microsoft Copilot+ PC artificial intelligence tools.

Meanwhile, the laptop makes excellent use of the Intel Series 3 Core Ultra 5 325 processor and Intel Graphics GPU. This allows the laptop to run virtually all popular applications, whether they’re locally installed or cloud-based.

I also discovered the built-in webcam works well during video calls and virtual meetings, and it’s fully compatible with the Windows Hello feature that uses facial recognition when a user approaches the laptop and wants to unlock it.

Whether you’re gaming, participating in video calls, or listening to audio, the XPS 14’s quad speaker system generates robust and distortion-free sound that supports Dolby Atmos and High Fidelity audio. Plus, the dual microphone setup ensures your voice will be clearly heard during video or voice calls, for example.

When it comes to durability, Dell has done an impressive job with the laptop’s construction and design. Thanks to the CNC machined aluminum housing, Corning Gorilla Glass 3 palm rest, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus cover glass on the display,  the laptop is spill resistant and able to withstand the rigors of everyday commuting or travel (including a drop from shin level when the laptop is housed in a backpack). 

If you’re willing to accept a slightly less powerful processor (the Intel Series 4 Core Ultra 7 355), the MSRP price of the XPS 14 laptop drops to less than $1,600, giving it a more competitive price. The smaller size Dell XPS 13, however, has a starting price of just $599 for students and educators, but has many similar features.

Who the 2026 Dell XPS 14 Will Appeal To

In a nutshell, the Dell XPS 14 will appeal to anyone with average mobile computing needs. It can be used for casual gaming, basic photo or video editing, and tasks that do not require an ultra souped up CPU, GPU, or NPU.

The laptop does an excellent job streaming audio or video, for example, but just as easily runs all Microsoft 365 applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.), as well as most other locally installed Windows apps and cloud-based applications. For example, I had no trouble running many of the popular Google Workspace apps. And since it comes with the XBox app preinstalled, you can begin gaming just as soon as the laptop is booted up and connected to the internet.

I’d definitely recommend this laptop to high school and college students, users with average computing needs, and mobile workers who want the capabilities of a Windows laptop without too much weight and bulk. For me, it’s the up to 32 hours of battery life that make the computer extra appealing.

Working With the 2026 Dell XPS 14

Setting up the 2026 Dell XPS 14 is a breeze. To get the best performance from the laptop, I suggest taking advantage of the Dell Optimizer application that comes preinstalled. This app makes it easier to customize Windows and device settings related to the display, power and battery, and thermal management.

For someone who isn’t too tech savvy, the step-by-step walkthrough Dell Optimizer offers explains each of the relevant features and why adjusting the various laptop settings (based on how you plan to use the laptop), makes sense.

Right out of the box, the Dell XPS 14 comes with an impressive selection of preinstalled apps, including popular Microsoft applications (such as Microsoft Edge, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Photos, Paint, OneDrive and Xbox). The latest Copilot+ AI tools are also integrated into the Windows 11 Home operating system and the majority of the Microsoft apps. 

There’s also a dedicated Copilot+ key found the bottom-right region of the keyboard. Of course, virtually all cloud-based applications run smoothly on this laptop. In addition, when the laptop is connected to the web, you get easy access to the Windows Store (from which you can download and install your choice of more than 800,000 apps, some of which need to be purchased or subscribed to.

My Final Thoughts: Is the Dell XPS 14 Worth It?

For decades, Dell has been known for manufacturing well-made and versatile laptops. With the re-introduction of the XPS lineup in 2026, this XPS 14 lives up to the company’s reputation and provides a smooth and hassle-free mobile computing experience.

So, if you’re looking for a powerful and versatile laptop that’s fairly priced and that has the latest Microsoft Copilot+ PC tools and features integrated into it, this Dell XPS 14 laptop is well worth considering.
