I absolutely love my Yorkie, and I only give Wendy the best dog food available not just because she deserves the best, but because she has multiple food allergies that will turn her into a miserable itchy mess if I serve up the wrong meal.
I’m always extra-cautious when petfood brands reach out to me to test and review their products, but after studying the tiny ingredient lists of the Portland Pet Food Company’s meals and treats, I wanted to see how Wendy and other family pets would take to these meaty human-grade offerings.
Although only some of these were well-suited for Wendy’s limited diet, every cat and dog who sampled these ready-to-eat meals and crunchy biscuits were thrilled to chow down on these tasty, yet nutritious foods.

Dog Biscuits
Since Wendy easily breaks out in a rash when she eats food or treats containing common allergens like peas, gluten, and poultry ingredients, I have to be extra-careful when picking safe snacks for my little buddy. However with only five ingredients, (Garbanzo Bean Flour, Natural Pumpkin, Peanut Butter, Molasses, and Cinnamon,) I knew their Grain & Gluten-Free Pumpkin Biscuits would be the perfect “cookie” for Wendy.
They’re medium-sized and a snap to break apart if you wanted to make them last or treat tiny snackers, and they have a delightful cinnamon smell that reminds me of those classic McDonalds’s Happy Meal Cookies in the best of ways. Wendy loves the taste, the tooth-cleaning crunch, and I am thrilled to give these gluten-free human-grade bone-shaped cookies to her once a day. Sure, at $9.99 a bag, they aren’t the cheapest option, however if you’re like me and absolutely need an allergen-safe and totally appreciated puppy snack, these high-quality pumpkin-based biscuits are worth the investment.
Portland Pet Food Company
The Portland Pet Food Company also treated us to Bacon Brew Biscuits as well, and while they admittedly smelled almost as yummy with a lovely “freshly baked cookie” scent wafting from the bag, the first ingredient is barley; since barley contains gluten, these meaty biscuits were tested by my mom’s ultra-tough Luke.
As you can tell from the video, Luke was a big fan of these baked bacon biscuits and he crunched them down immediately. The barley foundation of these cookies gives them a lovely crumbly-crunchy texture that dogs like him appreciate, and once they taste the bacon and peanut butter combo flavor, they’ll bug you for more. They’re that perfect medium size that isn’t “too much,” but unless you’re treating a tiny puppy, you won’t feel the need to break these down into smaller pieces.
With plenty of options for gluten-free snackers like Wendy such as Gingerbread and Bacon, as well as options for those dogs blessed without allergies including Bacon Malt and Beef Broth Brew Biscuits, the Portland Pet Food Company really does have a snack for every puppy out there.
Cat Meals
Joy, my adorable Korat cat, has never been a picky eater, but a slower one who tends to eat about 75% of a wet meal before leaving for a while and coming back for a second course of leftovers. I don’t know if it’s the smooth applesauce-like consistency or how much she loves salmon chunks in a salmon broth, but Joy handily slurped up a serving of Boots’ Salmon N’ Pumpkin as soon as it hit her bowl. It’s gooey, fishy, and is comprised of only eight ingredients, so I’m a fan of it as well.
Their Luke’s Chicken N’ Pumpkin recipe was almost as popular, but Joy was just wild about the salmon. I can easily see this as a “must have” topper for getting picky and senior kitties to eat regular food, as this was the most irresistible wet food Joy’s ever had the pleasure of tasting. I suggest buying the Cat Meal Variety Pack to learn which your cat may prefer, and its high-protein, high-moisture, premium-ingredient formula is totally worth the price of admission for cat lovers.
Dog Meals
I was forced to split the Dog Meal Variety Pack provided between Wendy and Luke, and that’s not a bad thing: I’m grateful that the Portland Pet Food Company took the extra step to change their formulas between recipes so that dog owners like myself can sidestep meals containing problem ingredients to focus on others. Speaking of which, the Hopkins’ Pork N’ Potato is hands-down the best option for allergy-prone puppies like Wendy, and it’s refreshing to identify many of its nine ingredients at a glance when you’re serving a meal to your best friend. She happily wolfed down the big green bean pieces, creamy pork chunks, and plenty of potato, and if you have a small breed, these pouches easily provide two meal-sized servings each.
I strongly suggest taking the time to read the few ingredients composing each Dog Meal, but since each one is distinct from the others, it’s easy to select the best one for your dog. Pet owners who want to give these Dog Meals a try should consider buying 6-packs or 12-packs, or signing up for a subscription for extra savings- you get what you pay for, but when it comes to savings, every little bit helps!
Portland Pet Food Company
At the end of the day, I’m definitely a fan of the Portland Pet Food Company’s offerings because they’re healthy, they are offered in a handy variety of recipes so doting pet owners can easily select what their cat or dog needs, and most of all, because you’d be hard-pressed to find an animal so picky that they won’t eagerly gobble these up. I feel like they’re a stellar way to “spice things up” once a week or so to provide your pet with something special, and the ultimate topper or mix-in to convince ultra-choosy eaters and senior pets to get more nutrition.
