I received review samples from Rocker Dog. It’s one of several brands I’m reviewing. I’ve written about pets for 9 years, since my mini schnauzer Woof Woof was born. In this article, you’ll learn about Rocker Dog’s flavors, Woof Woof’s physical and tastebuds reaction, and the pros and cons of the dog food. FYI: He’s a fan. 🙂
Pros
- It looks tasty. It comes out of the pouch chunky, like a meal you would eat yourself with visible vegetables and chunks of beef, fish, and/ or chicken. Some other fresh dog foods have a smoother texture Woof Woof is less fond of.
- It comes in a wide variety of flavors. The options aren't just beef, chicken, or fish. You can get chicken with wild-caught salmon in the same meal pouch.
- Some flavors do include whole grains such as quinoa. I prefer Woof Woof to have whole grains for his heart, so I opt for pouches containing whole grains over dog foods without whole grains listed on the label.
Cons
- Dogs may be allergic to some flavors. Canines may have a digestive or nasal reaction to some flavors, as most canine allergies are to proteins. One dog may have an allergy to chicken, while another may have an allergy to fish. Especially, with combo protein recipes, consider your pup’s allergies before choosing these flavors. Woof Woof doesn't have an allergy, so this wasn't an issue for him.
- Canine tummies have to adjust. There is always a transition time when switching dog foods. Especially, if your dog isn’t used to fresh food or doesn’t have human food in their diet on a normal basis, incorporate Rocker dog at a slower pace.
- Depends on refrigeration. Like all fresh foods that aren’t dehydrated, Rocker Dog food requires refrigeration and can spoil. So, you will need to make room in the fridge for this one.

For instance, a bag for 15-pound dogs, would feed your pup for 4 days or 8 days as a topper for other dog food. For 70-pound dogs, each bag feeds your furry friend for 1 day or 2 days as a topper to other dog food.

Woof Woof’s weight ranges between 17.5 and 20 pounds. I gave him Rocker Dog as a topper, because he’s great at controlling what he eats. So I leave his dry food out for him all day and I gave him ⅛ cup per day for a week.
Transition Time from Current Dog Food to Rocker Dog
Rocker Dog transition time from your current dog food generally takes about a week, starting with one quarter cup of Rocker Dog per morning or evening meal to three-quarters of your former dog food on days 1-2. Days 3-4 are recommended to be 50/50 and 75 percent Rocker Dog on days 5-6. By Day 8, they’re ready for 100 percent Rocker Dog in theory. Although, different dogs may require varying transition periods.
For instance, Woof Woof started with two tablespoons added to morning and evening meals. Sometimes, I switched it back down to one tablespoon if his poop was runny and then switched it back after it was solid again. Now, he can eat a bowl of Rocker Dog and have solid poops later in the day.
The Conclusion
Rocker Dog Food was definitely a winner with Woof Woof and part of my journey to find out whether I want to feed him fresh dog food instead of dried kibble.
The biggest problem with the product was my own fault. It needs refrigeration, which also applies to shipping in that arrives in dry ice that can defrost. I received the box a day or two late due to UPS delivering it to the wrong address initially. Rocker Dog offered have replaced it for me, but I initially said no and fed it to him anyway. His energy level was normal, but his poops were a little runny. I ended up getting him a second round of Rocker Dog that wasn’t delivered incorrectly and he loved it.
The second problem is you may have to be careful about protein allergies because you can get flavors with two wildly different proteins, such as chicken with wild-caught salmon.
Daily Life with Woof Woof on Rocker Dog
Overall, it’s super easy to serve him Rocker Dog daily. I would recommend storing the product in the fridge in plastic or glass containers. This can extend the product storage life for a day or two. I would also pay attention to how much he or she eats in four days. If they don’t get through a bag in that time frame. It may be smart to divide it and refreeze.
My dog self monitors his calories, so I can trust him to not overeat. I left his dry dog food out the whole time he was eating Rocker Dog to supplement. I would definitely get Rocker Dog for him again. However, I also make him fresh cooked foods such as whole grain pasta, chicken, and veggies.
