This 2025 edition of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is truly a pocket-sized powerhouse designed for business professionals, content creators, and power users. Yes, it’s a bit on the pricey side, but the technology bundled into this smartphone can help to make you more productive, become a better communicator, allow you to efficiently perform work-related tasks while on-the-go, and create content like a pro.

In conjunction with this phone’s release on July 25, 2025, AT&T Wireless provided me with a review unit of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. I’ve truly enjoyed my experience testing out this new mobile device, so keep reading to learn more about what it can do, and how you too can easily benefit from owning one.

New and Improved Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 Features

Compared to last year’s model, when it comes to overall performance, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is much closer to Samsung’s most powerful, but non-folding smartphone – the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. Key improvements to the Galaxy Fold 7 include a lighter and thinner design, more durable FlexHinge, faster processor, larger displays, and an upgraded camera system. 

And then there’s the improved functionality and new features offered by the Android 16 operating system which integrates Galaxy AI and Google Gemini AI. For example, the new Now Brief feature summarizes alerts, notifications, scheduling information, the weather forecast, and other important content so it’s easily accessible and well organized. AI is used to intelligently populate the Now Brief window with the information that’s most important to you.

The rechargeable battery is the same as last year’s model, but you can still expect all day functionality between charges. Based on how you plan to use the phone, the Galaxy S25 Ultra still offers a slightly more robust camera setup (although it uses the same Camera, Gallery, and Google Photos apps used for taking photos, shooting video, editing, and then sharing content). 

With this in mind, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 offers a considerably larger main display, and even the cover display is larger than the single display offered by the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

So, if choosing between the Galaxy Z Fold 7 or Galaxy S25 Ultra, the main differentiators are design, on-screen real estate, and price. I found the larger display is more appealing for handling work-related tasks, surfing the web, managing emails, streaming video content, and gaming. But when folded, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is very similar in many ways to the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Who Does the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 Appeal To?

Unlike the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7, which has widespread appeal among Android smartphone enthusiasts, the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s appeal is more niche (and more expensive). This is an extremely powerful and versatile phone, with a large cover display and even larger main display. Plus, you get processing power and features that rival Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S25 Ultra. 

As a result, the 2025 Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 appeals mainly to power users, business professionals, and serious content creators who need more on-screen real estate without having to carry around a tablet and a smartphone. More so than ever, a key feature of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is that when folded, it’s about the same size and weight as an average high-end smartphone. The phone easily fits in a pocket, purse, briefcase, or backpack. And while folded, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 can perform the same tasks as a traditionally designed high-end smartphone.

It’s when this phone is unfolded that its true capabilities truly shine. Having an 8-inch touchscreen display with excellent resolution, brightness, and fast refresh rate makes this smartphone perfect for multitasking or handling a single task that benefits from more on-screen real estate than what a traditional smartphone can provide. One thing I quickly noticed when I powered on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 for the first time is that right out of the box, it comes with all of the preinstalled apps most users could want or need in their everyday lives. And for existing Android phone users, simply by signing into your existing Google account, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 syncs data, documents, files, photos, music, and other content from your old phone with just a few on-screen taps.

With the help of both Galaxy AI and Google Gemini, artificial intelligence features now integrate more seamlessly into the Android 16 operating system, all of the Google apps and services, plus many other apps you may use. These AI tools are designed to provide information when it’s needed, make you a better communicator, help you improve your time management, allow you to stay more organized, and become a more prolific content creator.

Thanks to AI, writing and editing emails (or documents), composing text messages, editing photos, translating content between languages, summarizing content (text or audio), finding answers to questions, sharing data between apps, and gathering information from the internet is easier and more streamlined than ever.

Snap Photos, Shoot Video, and Create Content Using the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7

Out of all the smartphones currently available, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra offers the best camera system with access to the most powerful apps for taking photos, shooting videos, and then viewing, organizing, editing, enhancing, and sharing the content. That said, for the first time when it comes to photography and videography, the 2025 edition of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is a close runner-up. 

Both of these high-end smartphones now have a 200MP (Wide) main camera, although the other front and rear-facing cameras built into the Galaxy Z Fold 7 are not as powerful and they don’t have as powerful of a digital zoom as what you get with the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Using the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s cameras (and the Camera app), I found that the AI Photo Assist feature makes it super easy to consistently capture sharp and detailed content with accurate colors – even if you’re a total amateur. 

I also discovered the Galaxy Z Fold 7 does an incredible job capturing content in almost any lighting situation, and whether or not the phone user or subject(s) are in motion. The Camera app offers plenty of creative control, while the Gallery or Google Photos app provide pro-level editing and enhancement tools that are incredibly intuitive to use (thanks to the integrated AI). For videographers, vloggers, and content creators, the ability to capture up to 8K resolution video at 30 frames-per-second is a definite perk.

Another great feature is that whether the phone is folded or unfolded, the three rear-facing cameras continue to serve their purpose. Plus, there’s a front-facing camera built into both the cover and main display. And keep in mind, whichever Samsung Galaxy phone you use for photography or videography, in addition to the functionality offered by the Camera, Gallery, and Google Photos apps, there are plenty of optional apps that expand this functionality readily available via the Google Play Store.

Be sure to check with your existing cellular service provider to shop for the best deal when purchasing the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Also, check with competitors to see additional deals if you’re willing to switch carriers when you activate the new phone (and keep your existing smartphone’s phone number).

My Final Thoughts: Is the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 Worth It?

In the past, I’ve always considered the Galaxy Z Fold smartphones to be a bit of a novelty, not to mention a niche product with limited appeal. This is no longer the case with the 2025 Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. This phone includes the best of what Samsung Galaxy phones have to offer, combined with the customization, power, versatility, and security/privacy offered by Android 16. 

Plus, with the addition of Google AI and Google Gemini AI, there are more ways to interact with the phone than ever before. Every few months, Google releases enhancements and new features to its Gemini AI system, which offers additional ways to streamline everyday tasks, allow the phone to make certain decisions on your behalf, while providing more ways to communicate, compose content, summarize content, translate content, and make finding and analyzing information more efficient. 

For me, the biggest perk of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is the large display when the device is unfolded. Not until I actually used the larger display for everyday tasks did it become obvious how useful the extra screen real estate could be. The crease where the main display folds is barely noticeable, but the hinge is clearly more durable than in previous models. 

If you’re going to invest in this higher-end phone, I recommend the 512GB or 1TB version. Someone who plans to take full advantage of what this phone offers will appreciate the additional internal storage (compared to the 256GB version). Sure, many popular apps and the Android 16 operating system now rely heavily on cloud storage and file syncing, but there’s something to be said for having your important content on hand at times when there’s no cellular or Wi-Fi internet signal.

The speaker system built into the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is decent, but to experience the best quality audio (with surround sound, spatial audio, and noise cancellation), it makes sense to use the device with higher-end wireless headphones or earbuds. This is particularly useful when participating in hands-free phone calls, video calls, gaming, or streaming video content (TV shows or movies).

For someone who’s accustomed to carrying both a smartphone and tablet when they’re on the go, for the first time, many users will find the Galaxy Z Fold 7 can handle the tasks of both devices with little to no compromise in functionality, multitasking capabilities, or performance.
