A Candle With a Mission
When I spoke with Eva about the inspiration behind Siblings, she said that experiencing the long, cold, dark winters of Stockholm in her early 20s made her a “candle person.”
“Living there was also eye opening to how another culture lives, one that deeply values their connection with the surrounding nature and how their everyday choices impact the environment,” she remembers. “In Sweden, there’s a strong mentality of ‘fewer, better’.”
She and her brother, David, wanted to do something to “push back against throwaway culture” and when candles came to mind it made sense because “it was a small product with surprisingly big impact.”
They wanted to avoid the paraffin wax, cheap fragrance oils, and disposable vessels that just ended up in the landfill, so they came up with the idea for the refillable candle, and as Eva says, “the rest is history.”

Ordering Your Candle
To get started, you can take the Scent Quiz that will pair your tastes with the ideal candle. Eva says that many of their customers choose their scents seasonally: “something cozy and comforting in the cooler months and lighter, fresher notes when the weather shifts or when they’re craving sunnier days.” She also notices people pick scents based on the mood they want to create.
If you like to spend your time in the candle aisle sniffing the different scents, you may be a bit hesitant to order a candle without getting whiff first. But that’s why Siblings offers the Happy Family Promise. If the scent isn’t for you, you can send it back and they’ll send you a different one. This eliminates any issues if you don’t end up liking the scent you chose.

Filling the Vessel
One of the great things about Siblings is that their candles come in compostable packaging, and you can pour the wax into one of their vessels or use one of your own. I received the Forever Vessel in Earth, and they have a few others to choose from. I’m currently on the lookout for a thrifted vessel for my next candle.
The website says the vessel makes refilling a ritual, and I very much had that feeling when I poured mine. Even though the kids were screaming in the background (I put audio over it in the video), it felt like a sweet and peaceful moment as I watched the wax gently fill the vessel.
The only issue I had was trying to cut the wick to the right height. I had to use kitchen scissors because my regular ones weren’t strong enough. It’s a lot easier with the wick trimmer. Luckily, the starter kit comes with one!
Burning the Candle
Full disclosure, I started with their summer Tomato Tomaato scent, and while I enjoyed it, it turns out my children did not delight in our home smelling just like a tomato plant (it was actually uncanny how accurate the scent was). That meant my delight was delayed as I waited for the next scents. These received a much better reception, and now I’m happily burning No 05: Clove, Lavender, Cedarwood.
I think my favorite part is the wooden wick. If you’re really quiet, you can hear it crackling. It feels very charming and grounded.

In My Expert Opinion: Turning Moments into Rituals
Siblings is all about turning moments into rituals. Whether it’s filling the vessel with freshly melted wax and waiting for it to set up or using matches to light the wooden wick (I’m now on the lookout for matchbooks everywhere I go), being present is high on their priority list.
I love these candles and the mission behind them. Honestly, receiving this candle was a nice reminder to slow down and appreciate the in-between moments.
