As an American, I’m used to my local capsule toys being stocked with underwhelming prizes, like a “Sticky Hand” that gets hairy and unusable after five minutes of play, or a handful of stale Runts candy, so I’ve always been jealous of Japan’s wide selection of innovatively designed capsule prizes. Normally priced between 200 and 500 yen (about $1.35 to $3.39 USD), you will receive a spherical plastic capsule with a genuinely creatively-designed toy inside. If more Americans knew about these, I am sure they’d ditch the Funko POPs and line their office desktops, keychains, and home shelves with these adorable, cool, and funky little toys.
With that said, it’s not too easy for capsule toy fans like me to get our hands on these charming goodies without relying on expensive third-party resellers, so I’ve had to give up on finding many of the capsules I’d have wanted in the past. I follow many of the more prominent Japanese capsule toy makers on X, and I was pleasantly surprised that many of the latest releases were available on Tinywich, making this a must-visit store for collectors who need the latest capsules.
Their lightning-fast shipping and free shipping on orders $25 and up makes Tinywich the best place for capsule toy nerds, or people looking for a truly unique gift for someone notoriously difficult to shop for.
The Tinywich unboxing experience
While I was excited to showcase some of the latest and greatest capsule toys from Japan for myself, it became crystal-clear how Tinywich would make for an unforgettably thoughtful gift for someone special in your life. With so many capsules to choose from, it’s easy to quickly assemble a little collection of cute, funky, or nerdy options that you know they’d appreciate, but the presentation is the icing on the cake.
Tinywich seals their boxes with super-cute burger-themed tape, decorated with smiling holographic stickers, and the capsules themselves are safely nestled within a cushion of green “shredded lettuce” paper bits that perfectly tops off the sandwich theme. They did such a good job, I sincerely hope they push the “giftability” of their offerings with optional birthday and holiday cards soon, because you can feel the care put into how they assemble each order.
But what’s inside a Tinywich box?
Tinywich kindly sent me a collection of eight recently-released capsule toys, with a combination of ones I had hand-selected and some being total surprises. Let’s take a closer look!
First off, we have the “Loud Marmot Squeaking Figure” and “Kawaii Otter Figures Sukutto Tacchi San Kawauso” from Yell Co LTD. I’ve been a fan of Yell for a very long time, so it was exciting to add a few of their capsule toys to my collection. Inspired by the real-life chubby and noisy Chinese ground squirrels, the Marmot is a funny-looking little guy who stands three inches tall and emits a very loud squeak when squeezed — 100% guaranteed to grab your dog’s attention.
The charming tan otter had the most unusual capsule I’ve ever seen, because it is actually his head! A tiny bit of assembly, and I had the tallest and cutest capsule of the bunch. This toy’s name roughly translates to “Mr. Tacchi the otter who stands straight,” and he sure does! Cute!
Next up, we have a very special duo from my friend, the Taiwanese artist RBEN. I had picked up a pair of capsule toys from Kitan Club, and I was always impressed at their quality and creativity, so I was glad they adapted RBEN’s chunky animal sculptures into high-quality capsule toys. His art became a meme recently when someone posted a knock-off version of his iconic fat crocodile on X, and I reached out to share that the western world had fallen in love with his reptile buddy. I’m thrilled to have adopted his Penguin from Series 4 and Ring Tailed Lemur from Series 5; they’re so solidly made, expertly painted, and absolutely packed with personality. Love your work, RBEN!
Then we’ve got Yell’s Mini Dinosaur Fossils and GhosTee Figures Series 3 from Qualia. With 12 mini-skulls in the set, of course I got the only dinosaur I wasn’t familiar with! “Dracorex” is hotly contested to be either its own species or a younger pachycephalosaurus, but this little fossil is expertly detailed and sports a lifelike fossil paint job (and was the tiniest capsule of the bunch by far).
I really wanted a GhosTee for ages, not just because it’s somewhat similar to a ghostly flying coat enemy from Donkey Kong Country 2, but because it’s a flat-out lovable design. I didn’t realize the GhosTee has a pouty expression with its eyes until I got one for myself! Unfortunately, this spooky shirt’s flaming pattern is unsealed, so it leaves an unpleasant “tacky” feeling on your fingertips. It’d be bad if a GhosTee was meant to be played with, but since it’s designed for display, it’s not such a big deal.
Finally, I have a Kneeling Knight Pen Holder from Yell and one of the Seven Dwarfs from Qualia! The golden knight assembles in seconds and is surprisingly adept at giving my extra-special Chicken Scallion pen some extra flair. These metallic knights come in gold and silver, and if you’re looking for a special desktop present, I highly suggest buying three so you can link them together to support the weight of a bulky premium pen.
I’ve wanted one of these steampunk Dwarfs for a very long time, and Qualia did not disappoint. I received “Astro Boy” — no, not the anime icon himself, but a stylish and perfectly-painted mini-figure with electrodes for hands and a bulky trisected golden helmet. I can only imagine the wild space adventures this little guy would go on!

If you’re looking for a fun piece of art or want a gift that is extremely out-of-the-box, I cannot recommend Tinywich enough.
