Making seafood at home can be delicious and nutritious. The problem, at least for me, is finding high-quality fish to prepare. After all, if I’m going to put in the effort to make a tasty home-cooked meal, I want to make sure the seafood is worth it.

Luckily I live on the coast, so there are a handful of trustworthy seafood markets. But even here, finding high-quality, sustainably-sourced seafood can be a challenge. Plus, it often takes at least an hour or two to make the trip, which I can’t always fit into my schedule.
Enter the Wild Alaskan Company. When I learned about this seafood delivery program, I was intrigued, so I reached out to the team at Wild Alaskan Company, which sent me a Wild Salmon Box to try.
First Impressions
When I knew the box was on its way, I was a little skeptical that it would arrive with the fish completely frozen. I live in Florida, and with an early summer delivery, it was pushing 90 degrees on delivery day. Thankfully, the fish arrived completely frozen, tucked into smart packaging.
Not only was the fish still frozen in the box, but the packaging that composed the ‘cooler’ was also compostable. I love that detail because I always feel a bit guilty about packages that come with lots of extra Styrofoam. In addition to the waste-conscious packaging, I loved the feel-good details in the box, including a map of the seas where the fish came from.
It was simple to pop those salmon straight from the box into my freezer.

Easy to Prepare
The box of salmon included over 10 filets. Notably, each filet was frozen into an individual package and labeled with the type of salmon. When I was ready to prepare fish for dinner, I moved two filets to the fridge the night before to defrost. I appreciated that each filet was individually wrapped because I can easily prepare more or less depending on how many people will be at the dinner table.
Each filet I’ve sampled has been high quality. I’ve enjoyed each and every bite.
In My Expert Opinion
For anyone who loves eating fish at home but struggles to find high-quality, sustainably sourced options, The Wild Alaskan Company’s Wild Salmon box is an excellent choice. It takes some of the guesswork out of knowing where the fish came from. And when ordering again, I know I won’t have to worry about the fish arriving frozen thanks to the company’s thoughtful packaging.
