I was sent the Billie Malibu Starter Kit by an editor to try out this summer. I have sensitive skin and frequently nick myself shaving, so I was excited to try a new razor. As soon as I opened the box, I was pleased by the cheerful visuals of the kit: The set was colorful and well-designed.
It came with a Barbie pink and pastel orange razor handle, two five-blade refills, and a yellow magnetic holder, which I promptly lost because four of us share one small bathroom, and I suspect, although no one is talking, someone pulled it off the wall at some point. Sigh. However, I can imagine (and other reviewers have stated) that it is extremely handy to keep your razor from getting rusty and wet. Unfortunately, I used it for one day before it disappeared.

Billie does sell its own shaving cream, but the cool thing is the blades contain their own aloe shave soap, which makes for a smooth glide. It was a small job, but the razor did its work and didn’t leave nicks or scratches, even on my sensitive skin. Afterwards, I noticed that I didn’t get any red bumps or dry skin, unlike how I usually do. To be honest, I usually use whatever razors are on sale, so this Billie razor was a treat for my legs.
A few weeks later, I went searching for the razor and couldn’t find it, possibly because the yellow magnetic holder was gone. Then I found the razor upstairs in the kids’ bathroom. It turned out that my teenage son (who had just started shaving) decided to use the razor too. He said it was lightweight and easy to use on his face. Because the handle is made with no-slip, matte rubber, it was also safe for all body parts. No nicks or blood when we used Billie.

Billie sells its own shaving cream and other products at online retailers and brick-and-mortar stores, such as Target and Walmart. I am not a shaving aficionado, but I will definitely give this starter kit to my niece this Christmas (hopefully she’s not reading this…) and pop a new kit into my kid’s stocking, since he’s a fan. It’s easy to set the blade in — click and fit.

In My Expert Opinion
I really enjoyed shaving with this kit and was pleased that my kid used it too. It’s not easy to appeal to a teen. It was a nice change of pace to find a product that works well for both adults and teens with sensitive skin, but Billie’s Malibu starter set provided what we needed (although perhaps our household needs more than one magnetic holder). It was a step-up (or felt like one) from the “grab whatever disposables are on sale” shaving attitude I’ve spent the last decade cultivating. The inclusion of aloe shave soap and five blades really made a difference in terms of comfort. Since I can buy refill blades from Billie, I won’t be tossing razors so frequently.
