Columbia is a recgonizable name I’ve known since I was a kid. I have memories of shopping at Kohl’s with my parents looking at Columbia winter jackets in the kid’s section. Though I’ve owned many solid Columbia coats and jackets over the years, I almost neglected that this brand also has excellent shoes.

The Columbia Women’s Konos TRS OutDry Shoe is the first shoe I’ve tried from the brand. Like all of Columbia’s outdoor-focused products, these shoes have great traction — ideal for trail walking or running. Here’s what I liked most about the Columbia Women’s Konos TRS OutDry sneaker.

Waterproof OutDry

There’s nothing worse than wet sneakers, socks and feet. You know Columbia has OutDry material on their jackets, but they’ve equipped these shoes with OutDry too. OutDry is a waterproof, yet breathable fabric.

Ironically, right after I tried these shoes, it rained the next day while I was on an outdoor walk at a local trail. I found that the shoes repelled water well and dried out quickly when I got home. If you spend a lot of time outdoors, investing in a pair of sneaks with this material could be a worthwhile choice.

According to the brand, these shoes have maximum cushioning on their scale of light-to-max cushioning in shoes. I can attest, they feel very cushioned. These are the type of shoes you would wear for very long days. I can see these shoes being great for long travel days too (such as a day walking around Rome).

Specifications

  • Weight: 9.7 oz (per shoe, for a size 7).
  • Total ride height: 27.5 mm heel / 17.5 mm toe.
  • Size range: Available in regular or wide width.
  • Colors: Multiple neutral and brighter colorways available.
  • Size availability: Women's size 5 to 12, half-sizes available.

Fit

I have a small, yet wide foot and found the standard version to fit well. However, I do appreciate that they have a full selection of wide-width available for those who have an even wider foot. I found these sneakers to break in pretty easily, though the squeaking was noticable. In the past, I’ve experiened squeaking at first but it typically will resolve within a week of regular wear. If yours doesn’t, a little baby powder on the soles can do the trick.

When putting the Women’s Konos TRS OutDry Shoe to the test, I started with a five to seven mile walk, which is standard for my everyday wear. These shoes felt comfortable and lightweight. I did find them to feel a tad bulky at first, though this went away when I adjusted to them.

Pros

  • Waterproof material.
  • Large size selection, include wide width.
  • Removable insoles.
  • Pull on loop makes it easy to take on/off.
  • Adapt Trax technology for great traction.

Cons

  • Bit of a bulky base.
  • A little squeaky (which may improve with time).

In My Expert Opinion

Overall, the Columbia Women’s Konos TRS OutDry sneaker is one designed for outdoor use. If you’re just looking for your average indoor gym sneaker, this probably isn’t your best choice.

On the other hand, if you frequently trail run or trail walk, these sneakers are perfect. The price point is high, however, if you’re investing in a shoe that is made to last and remain durable during those ultra-long hikes or runs, it’s worth it.

The various components of this shoe such as the Adapt Trax outsole is designed for wet or dry traction outdoors, using a compound and hike-specific tread pattern. For this reason, it is important to buy shoes that are geared towards the type of activity you want to do. These shoes are designed for stability on uneven terrains, such as in hikes.
