I’m always up to test out a home tech gadget, so I was excited to try the Divoom Times Frame. This digital picture frame offers 1080p resolution with a seemingly endless array of widgets and customizations to choose from. One of the best things, in my opinion, is that you don’t need a subscription to take advantage of the frame’s features. All you have to do is download the app and connect it to your frame. Then you’re all set!

Times Frame
A Quick Tip
I’m not great at paying attention to voltage or charging requirements, so when I plugged the Times Frame in for the first time, I thought it was broken. Turns out, I had it plugged into the wrong size adapter. (It takes at least a 10 volts.) There’s no battery, so make sure you choose a location near a plug for displaying it.

The Pros
This digital frame has a pleasing display and a futuristic look. You can choose different faces each with different widgets, including photos, weather, finance updates, countdowns, influencer widgets, a calendar, and pixel art.
There are a lot of options for customization as well. Where there are opportunities to include pixel art, there are albums from which you can choose the art that reflects your style. There’s also a community tab with a gallery of pixel art. There’s a lot of pixel art.
The side of the frame features a light display which you can customize through the app, adjusting the brightness, color, and light effect.
When you choose an option on the app, the Times Frame adjusts instantly, so it’s easy to see your changes in real time and decide what works best for you. There are also options for alarms and reminders, and it will display Google calendar notifications.
The screen is incredibly crisp and clear. It’s also slightly transparent which adds to its modern feel.
The Cons
While there are a lot of faces to choose from, I don’t think there’s a way to change the type of widgets that are on it. That means that even if you like a face, it may not have the widgets you want.
This could also go in the pros, but I find it a little complicated to go through each of the faces to see what widget they include, so I’ll keep it in the cons.
For instance, the Popular Cities face allows you to choose from 16 cities for the background. Then there are five widgets to customize. There are three Round Components, and you can choose from:
- Today’s date.
- Traditional calendar.
- Weather.
- Current temperature.
- Humidity.
- Temperature.
- Air pressure.
- Visibility.
- Sunrise time.
- Sunset time.
- Wi-Fi.
- Noise.
- Moon phase.
Another face, Dahli’s Clock, includes the time, date, and weather, but it isn’t customizable. The Retro Newspaper includes photos, the time, weather forecast, to-do list, news feeds, stock feeds, and pixel art.
Basically, it just takes a lot of exploring to find what works for you.
The back of the frame is very bright, which probably won’t be a problem for most, but I have it on a bookshelf that doesn’t have a back on it in that spot. It glares towards my desk in the morning. Obviously, I could move it, but this is the best spot for everyone to see it, and it’s near a plug.
What I Love
This is a great way to display information and photos for the family. It would also make a great gift for grandparents, aunts, and uncles.
My favorite face is Simple Modern. It includes the following widgets:
- Countdown or sticky note.
- Digital time.
- Photos.
- Calendar.
- Five-day weather forecast.
My most tech-savvy child was actually the one who figured out that you can change the frame face to just show all of the pictures, so we often leave it on that setting. I currently have the countdown set for Christmas, so the kids are loving checking it each day.
In My Expert Opinion
Times Frame
If you’re getting this as a gift, make sure the recipient is tech-savvy. Alternatively, you can buy it and install the app on your phone to control it. This allows you to share photos, sticky note messages, countdowns to visits or special occasions, and more. If you’re buying it for yourself, it offers a lot of customization opportunities. For me, it’s a fun way to showcase pictures of the kids and family members. They especially loved it when I included pictures of them and their friends.
