I’m a side sleeper and always have been, but until recently had never owned a side sleeper pillow. Honestly, I didn’t know they existed until I saw them popping up on Instagram. It’s one of those things I never thought to look up — I thought pillows were pillows. Well, they’re not, and if you’re a side sleeper (or a back or stomach sleeper), you need to know that these exist.
Even after I had seen these types of pillows floating around Instagram, I still didn’t look into it. It’s one of those things that I only thought about when I went to bed and then forgot as soon as I left my bedroom. When I got the chance to test the Honeydew Scrumptious Side Sleeper Pillow, then, it felt serendipitous.

After sleeping on it for a few months, it’s definitely climbed to the top of my favorite pillow list. I actually didn’t take it with me on a recent camping trip, so we could save space. Plus, I didn’t want it to smell like a campfire. As I laid down the first night, I realized that I’d made a mistake. I’ve said in my other sleep product reviews that I don’t have trouble sleeping, and this was still true, but it took me longer to get comfortable, and I found myself pummeling my regular pillow into a shape that somewhat resembled the shape of the Honeydew.
Adding this pillow to the rest of my favorite sleep products — a weighted blanket, sleep mask, sleep lotion, bamboo pjs, and linen sheets — makes me happy to get into bed every night.

How I Use the Scrumptious Side Sleeper Pillow
I’ve always slept with two pillows because I like my head propped up a bit, and I usually tuck my arm way up under my head. This has actually led to some shoulder issues on my primary sleeping side. With regular pillows, I think I was jamming my arm under my head for added support under my neck, and sleeping in that position year after year, along with some other strain, caused a lot of pain in my shoulder.
The Scrumptions Side Sleeper Pillow’s curved design offers the neck and face support that I used to rely on my arm for, which helps with the pain at night and allows me to get into the right position without compromising my shoulder further.
I still like my head propped up, so I have a second pillow underneath. Honeydew has the option of purchasing more fill — Melon Rewards members get additional fill for free! Melon Rewards are free to join, and all you have to do is complete their form. I haven’t done this yet, so I’m sticking with the second pillow option for the moment.
The Shape Supports My Sleep without Hurting My Shoulder
As I mentioned, years of side sleeping and jamming my arm up under my head has lead to some persistent shoulder pain. That was one reason why I wanted to test a side sleeper pillow and see how it impacted my comfort while sleeping. I’m making an effort to keep my arm out from under my head, and the pillow’s shape allows me to tuck my arm underneath, but closer to cheek level, while the rest cradles my head. Getting rid of shoulder pain is a long game, but this is helping me on the road to recovery.
The Pillowcase Keeps It Cool
The pillow comes with a cooling bamboo pillow case made from Viscose derived from 100% Organic Bamboo. It’s great for sensitive skin and stays cool. It feels very smooth to the touch, so it’s really comfortable to sleep on each night. It’s made specifically for the Side Sleeper Pillow, so it fits the curved design perfectly. I have the Powdered Sugar color, but you can also choose from Silver Lining, Morning Mint, Coastal Blue, or Stardust. All of the colors are soft and calming.
You Can Wash the Case and the Pillow Cover
This is gross, but have you ever looked at a pillow without the case and can’t believe you put your head there every night? Regular pillows are difficult to wash, so those drool stains accumulate over time — unless you use mouth tape, which is one of my favorite things!
Honeydew solved this problem by making both the pillow case and the pillow cover washable. Washing the case is simple, you just remove it from the pillow and wash like you would any other case. The pillow cover is where they really changed the game, though. All you have to do is remove the fill and toss the cover into the wash as well. When you’re done, you just put the fill back in, distribute evenly, and zip the cover back up.

In My Expert Opinion
This is my favorite pillow at the moment. The fill cradles my head and the curved design supports my head and face as I snuggle in to sleep on my side. It’s priced at $250, but as of this writing, it’s on sale for $199.99. For me, that’s a high price for a pillow, but it’s incredibly comfortable, so if you want to invest in a good night’s sleep, this is a good place to start.
On another note, I loved the packaging and the melon theme. When you open the box, the lid says “Sleep Just Got Sweeter.” Plus, it’s a family-owned business that started as a passion project for Jonathan and Evita Kunke, the husband and wife behind the brand. It’s a very sweet story.
