It’s rare that I know instantly how I’m going to feel about something, but the first time I used Kumo Luxe’s triad of volumizing haircare products, I could pretty much write the review in my head. I knew instantly how this was going to go once I saw my hair after the first use. Here’s what happened.
Most “Clean” Products Leave My Hair Looking Anything But
My hair is tricky at best, difficult at worst. I have an oily scalp, which means daily washing — no dry shampoo can contend. I also have incredibly long hair, so I have to use a lot of product for anything to be effective. Finally, my hair is incredibly fine, and when I go to brush it out, it’s often a painful, snarly situation. For all these reasons, I often shy away from haircare that says the word “clean.”

I’ve had a lot of experiences with products that are paraben-free, sulfate-free, gluten-free, cruelty-free and vegan that do not do the job on my hair. The shampoo never feels clean enough — out damn oil, out! — and the conditioner requires I use a leave-in spray or detangler to get the snarls out.
Not so with Kumo Luxe.

Clean BUT Science-Backed
Influenced by Japanese culture, Kumo Luxe has taken steps so that it’s effective without compromising efficacy. Its website touts “Purity Meets Performance” and states a number of processes and standards the company adheres to so that they’re meeting these pillars. It’s also a sustainable company. All these claims are wonderful, but I really had to put the pedal to the metal and make sure it lived up to the hype.
My Experience
The packaging is sublime, so my first impression was really positive. Gorgeous bottles and even fancier boxes (the texture is lovely), so I enjoy having them in my shower. Silly, I know, but aesthetics matter.
Next: the scent. It’s a bright but gentle aroma that wafts from the bottle. The shampoo is more scented than the conditioner, by the way. I was worried that I wouldn’t smell it in the shower — part of the shower experience that makes me happy is nice scents — but when I actually lathered it, it filled the room with scent in the best way. Not overpowering, and really luxurious. Spa-like!
The lather on the shampoo is THICK! I was surprised because often these “clean” brands are really skimpy on the bubbles, and with my thin locks and hard-ish water, it makes for a re-wash situation, but I was overjoyed at how nicely the shampoo did its thing. No notes.
The conditioner was nice albeit a little hard to get out of the bottle. I didn’t love having to whack the bottle a few times to get it out, but it was nice and thick and coated my hair effectively. When I got out to brush it, I didn’t have any issues and didn’t need a leave-in. Success!
Let’s talk volume. I was thrilled with how soft and full my hair looked, even without blowdrying! My husband even commented, and I took a picture to commemorate the occasion in my Instagram stories.
The real game changer, though? THE VOLUMIZING SPRAY. I’ve never, ever had volume like this after a blow-out in my life. It’s a pump spray, not aerosol, and you spray it root to tips on damp hair before blowdrying. The results… blow(dried) my mind.

The Verdict
I will absolutely be using these products. I think I enjoy the volumizing spray the most, then the shampoo, but all three products are game-changers for me. Would happily recommend!
