The Color is Called “So Good” for a Reason

Styles come and go, but good denim is forever. As a style writer, it’s my duty to tell you that wide-leg is where it’s at. Or straight leg. There’s a current trend toward “barrel leg”, but I feel like it gives rodeo clown more than fashionista. The skinny jean is technically out, depending on how you’re wearing it, or who you’re talking to.

When I first found AMO, I was impressed by the quality, even from photos. These looked like good jeans. When I tried to pick a pair, I thought of my closet’s gaps. )This is a good tactic to keep from impulse buying: What staples do you NOT have?) I realized that black jeans were going to be big next season, and the straight-to-wide leg silhouette wasn’t going anywhere, so I selected the cut “Billie” in the shade “So Good.”

A Luxury Jean

I’m a working mom of four, so $300+ jeans aren’t a typical purchase for me. If you want to spend that much, it’s got to be a workhorse. It’s got to be an investment jean. It should fit perfectly and be worn in a thousand ways. If you amortize the cost-per-wear, it should still be low.

I do think this is an investment jean. I have already planned a dozen or so ouffits where a wide/straight black jean would be the perfect bottom. I, myself, am petite, so a cropped jean fits exactly as it should fit a regular person. I was so happy with how these fit. I’m typically a size 4/6, so I got a size 28, and these jeans fit exactly how they should. I felt especially secure in the tummy area — which is a problem area for me — because they held me in without feeling uncomfortable or too tight.

I was even more impressed by the actual fabric. I could literally feel that these were expensive jeans. They were thick, but not stiff; soft, but not cheap-feeling to the touch. The stitching was high quality, tight, and there were no random threads hanging out.

Styling Ideas

Tank + Linen Shirt + Jeans + Toe-Ring Sandals

This combination says “I’m doing errands, but I’m looking cool while I’m at it.” This is exactly what I’d wear on a Target run, but when I actually WANT to run into people.

White Tee (or Tank) + Leather Jacket + Jeans + Matchy Belt and Shoes

Gives main character energy without being overboard about it. Will have people asking “Who’s she?”
